computer resets

hey all ok i have a CPU issue... and i need help...

this is the story.... for the last couple of weeks or so my computer has been acting up... the cpu would BEEP then turn off and turn back on... i thought it was my vid card causing it.. which it could be still i dunno... friday night i was tryin to show my brother what happens when im in game it woiuld freeze.. when a huge spark shot out of the power supply.... thus blowing it out... i got a new pwer source and we installed it... however the computer now will not BEEP but just reset itself for no reason... wheather its during game play or if its just idle... or even as windows is loading... i have checked up on it through the web and some people say its an over heating problem others r saying i got something corrupt on the computer and its causing it to reset... so they suggest i should format the cpu and reinstall the OS... anyone else have an idea before i take the ever boring step of formatting and reinstalling XP??

Power Supply

Sound like a classic Power Supply Problem, except your still having issues after replacing it. Have you tried flashing the BIOS? or checking your ACPI settings.. often the cause of many problems. Who makes your mother board??

And it could be overheating. Sorry to be so non-specific. Are you Overclocking....and do you have a good heat sink??

Sounds like maybe your powersupply fried some more than just istelf.
But just to make sure it's not corrupt BIOS, you should take out the CMOS battery, unplug the PSU from the wall, then hold the power button for about a minute, then plug everything back in.
If that doesn't work, then reinstall Windows.
If that doesn't work, then you need a new computer. See why you never skimp on the powersupply?

Could you please give us a complete list of all the hardware your using such as brands, wattages, models, etc. This will give us a much better idea. Does sound like the burned out PSU got to something else in your machine.

Yup.. seems the PSU fried something else. Quick question.. when the system restarts, is in idle? or are you doing something on it?
