New router

Ok, so I havent been available (due to my move to New Braunfels), but I need some advice on this d-link router. Best Buy has it on sale & I would like anyone's opinion on it: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/D-Link+...d=9706754&st=4 port router&contract_desc=null

Now understand that I do not plan to do much with it. I am sure that I will get some lag, which I am not worried about. This router will only be mine for 2 weeks (when i get my old Cisco router back). If its better than my old Cisco router, than I may stay with it. I will be getting Time Warner Cable setup tomorrow (its the only thing available in our apt complex so please dont diss on TWC).

I take it you have a wireless card with N capabilities, correct?

my last 4 routers have all be d-link. Never had a problem with one of them.

I say go for it.

I have had my DIR 655 for a while now and love it. Does everything, simply. Best buy stores around here stop carrying D-Link in store for some reason... got a couple more of them off ebay for about $50 a piece. Never failed.

One of my home routers was a Linksys N router and got replaced with the DIR 655, my office router was also replaced the same way. I must say Linksys makes great G routers, but there N routers have not been that great at all. Before using the 655's , all i ever used was the Linksys wrt54g.

I wish I had read your post dbee before I went to Best Buy. I was very disappointed when they didnt have the D-Links in stock. Well they had a Belkin N-150 for $5 more, so I figured I would go with that. Well I just had to deal with installing that Belkin router. What a pain. Probably the easiest part bout the process was installing the software. What was convenient was the fact that they had the ssid & password on a sticker inside the box, which definitely helped. Right off the bat, I already had issues with accessing a website because another program wanted control of the bandwidth flow. Had to shut off that program & now everything runs fine. That lil issue should not have happened.

Thankfully I checked Newegg & they happened to have that D-Link router for the same price along with free shipping. +1 to Newegg there, so I just purchased the D-Link router from them & another big thing is that theyre going with UPS to ship it 3 day, which is great. Once I receive it, im sending this Belkin router back to Best Buy & getting my $$ back on it. Well ive done some more living & learning. Another lesson in life.

On a side note, the Best Buy store had plenty of Netgear routers available. Unfortunately none of them were under $50 & the last Netgear router I had to deal w/ was their dreaded 54 mbps router (which they had their latest version of that in the store). Needless to say I wasnt very impressed with their selection of low-end routers. Again, thats Best Buy for ya.

WOW! Thats all I have to say about this D-Link router. From the time I got the box until it finally installed, its been an ultra simple & easy experience. The Belkin router was nowhere near as easy as this was. I must say that this router is seriously idiot proof. The only way you could mess it up is if you're worse than an idiot (not sure if that is possible) or you just that dang lazy! Very clear & easy to read instructions. CD gave very clear & understandable directions. For some odd reason, my usual drive wouldnt read the disc, but thankfully I have 2 drives (just in case this happens). The only other thing you really need is some patience for the software & the network to communicate & thats it. Extremely impressed with D-Link & this technology. Thank you guys for you comments! Will def go the D-Link direction in the future!
