Trading changes

* Added some anti-scam advice to the chat window.
* Increased trading slots to 8 slots per person.
* Added item rarity colors.
* Added the item’s original name to the item description.
* Made most tools tradable.
* Fixed Ellis’ Cap and the Frying Pan not being tradable (For many people. There are cases of both Ellis' cap and the Frying Pan still appearing as untradable)

This means that keys are now trade-able

Keys being tradeable is rather stupid, in my opinion. It seems like the creators are just trying to get money out of us any way they can now. Makes me lose hope in the game... (yeah you just lost).

I think keys being trade-able opens valve up to problems. buy hey, i bought one key just for, uh, stuff and giggles. seems like one key = one reclaimed

You do not have to buy anything to enjoy the game. You do not need new items to enjoy the game.

Stop whining about Valve trying to make money. If companies don't make money they go out of business.

:thumbup:

I agree with you, mrcool. Just play the game and enjoy it - don't worry about all these items.

exactly I plan on being one of these company owner types one day =P you don't want Naku to go out of business do you :(

anyway if you wanan complain go yell at infantry ward, activision, EA, and Blizzard ALL insanely guilty of doing w/e it takes to milk the customer of more money Valve has been good to us they just have a TOTALLY OPTIONAL STORE to buy items that can easily be obtained in game or even CRAFTED using items u already have

Valve has released new content for tf2 for years COMPLETELY free, new maps....you know what 4 maps cost you in mw2? about 15 bucks and theres not even dedicated servers there know what they cost in tf2? nothing so be glad your not being forced to buy new content

Hooray for capitalism. I'm sure Valve has been going through tough times what with the number of special sales and offers they've been able to give out with their games. We should never question corporations about their methods, since the bottom-line is what really matters, not game-play or user base.

Seriously, I'm tired most of all of posts dismissing valid criticism as mindless whining, and basically telling those people to shut up. It's rude, it's disrespectful, and I don't like it.

And forth come the complainers. It is not whether you like it or not, it's gonna be there and you can't do anything about it. That's the system, it's not gonna change because you and your friends don't like it, I'm sure the Item shop is liked far more than disliked, and either way, it is optional. There's no real reason to complain about it, but there will always be people who want to argue over nothing.

Valve has been giving us free updates and now they want to charge us for ingame items that we can get from just drops or trades.... stop crying it's the perfect system for micro transactions. It's for the person who plays causally and doesn't have a lot of time to just sit in a server all day and play and live off their drops. It's for the lazy person that wants a specific hat or gun that hasn't dropped for them at all. If you have a game with micro transactions, make it like this one because it's perfect and how can you complain. Basically what I'm saying is that you can buy stuff, but it won't affect the gameplay of others that don't buy things.

I'm fine with them making some money from our patronage.

BUT making some items exclusively obtainable from the in-game store(see keys, when crates drop at a specific time interval) after years of providing a free service seems a little two-faced. Forcing someone to purchase an item to make a found item is quite manipulative and ,unfortunately, well within the bounds of capitalism. (Not anti-capitalism, just not a fan of this system) Not my favorite policy by any means...

The class items also allow people to buy a better character... it may not make them great, but it's does allow one average player slightly above average because they have the money to buy something.

Keys being tradable is probably great news for a lot of people. That means they don't have to buy them for $2.49 (imho expensive) a pop.

That being said, I'll buy anyone's keys for a reclaimed metal if that's the going price.

Also arguments about people paying for in-game items tend to be pretty weak. During this new year I cut my spending tremendously: $20 unlimited tmobile internet, $5 starbucks, $20 netflix,$12 movie tickets. Oh yeah, I sold my car and bought a bus pass + scooter.

Then you got those people who play WOW and Eve that have monthly fees. I think I deserve to spend $25 at least once for TF2 Items for my entertainment. Just saying.

The rude, disrespectful, and whining parts make sense, but I can still nicely dismiss valid criticism as criticism that hasn't been fully thought through.

For example, the store Valve has is totally optional.
The store doesn't actually have any special content any more. This part is why I like that keys are tradable, doing this has actually improved the store a little.
All the weapons are balanced, therefore anyone who just spent tons of money on new weapons won't really be at an advantage.

Keys and crates are only there to get people to buy from the store.

Also, see how I said earlier that the weapons are balanced. Sure, it may make them better, but it also makes them weaker in some other aspect.

Also, I'm not quite sure if I'm remembering this correctly, but Team Fortress 2 is a game. For fun. Even if it means pointlessly dying every two minutes (:()
