Hey Guys.

I just capped off two papers and finished a Prospectus for a third one. So to celebrate...I'm going to do some more...typing? Ehh...yeah. So anyway, it's getting pretty close to Halloween and what better way to ring in the holiday than to comprise a list of horror movies. I mean, I review movies...and most reviewers do these kinds of lists, I think. So yeah, lets get this list started. But before we begins, I'll try to keep the list mostly American/British, cus I know some people out there hate subtitles. I'll also try to keep it somewhat modern.

So to start off, I'm going Spanish:

15: [Rec]

Why?: Yes, [Rec] is one of those "found footage" movies, but easily the most effective one out there. The production comes off as a mixture of 28 Days Later, meets the Blair Witch Project, set in a claustrophobic apartment complex. The movies starts out slow, but once it gets going...it keeps going till the somewhat surprising ending. There is an American remake film out called Quarantine, which is pretty good in comparison, but can't stand up to the original.

14: 28 Days Later

Why? Well for one you can either credit...or blame, 28 Days Later for rebooting the zombie genre. Another thing is that it's an incredibly effective horror movie. It's a violent, visceral, and wholly depressing film about a zombie apocalypse. Sure, the theatrical ending seems a little out of place in this film, but it's definitely still worth watching.

13: The Exorcist

Why? More like: Why isn't this higher on the list? Well it hits number 13 for the simple reason that I didn't find it scary. Plain and simple, the film failed to scary me or leave me shaken. But it's still a great film, it's well shot, well acted and has a reasonably good story. Also there is a reason why this film usually ranks higher on other peoples lists, because it did manage to scrae a whole bunch of people. This film is definitely worth giving a shot.

12: The Terminator

Why? I know what you're think and no, The Terminator is indeed a horror film. You have an unstoppable creature who literally kills everything in its way with only one mission, to kill the protagonist. All you can do against this being is run like your life depended on it...sounds a bit like a horror movie doesn't it? Also, it's The Terminator, the film is a modern day classic and there is pretty much no reason for you not to see it.

11: Braindead

BRAINDEAD.jpg

Why? If I had to chose between watching Peter Jackson's Braindead or his Lord of the Ring movie...I'd chose Braindead any day. The film is just that much fun, it's also the goriest film that I've ever seen. No seriously, there isn't a gorier film out there. There are some pretty good scares in the film and one amazing set piece with a lawnmower.

Evil Dead has to be on here :)

Or Jeepers Creepers, the original.

I've never seen any of the Jeepers Creepers films, so they'll be absent from the list. Though there is a pretty good chance of Evil Dead showing up on the list.

10: Les Diaboliques

Why?: This is a French classic from 1955. Now it's both old and foreign...and a little slow at times, but totally worth it. The film is basically about two women who murder an adulterous school headmaster...the murder goes right, but everything after goes terribly wrong. If you think you can manage to sit through this film...then please do so.

They're surprisingly good. The 3rd one is coming out sometime next year.

9: Wait Until Dark

Why? Ok, how is this for a set up: Audrey Hepburn mistakenly comes into the possession of a doll filled with Heroin. Two thugs and their psychopathic boss want to get the doll back from Audrey Hepburn. A pretty good premises so far right? Well how about if Hepburn is blind. Yeah, and the bulk of the film takes place in her small apartment. It's all the makings of a brilliant film and it is one. It's in English and in color, so there really is much reason not to see it.

8: Inside

Why? Inside is one of those rare films that comes up with a subject matter that alone is disturbing. Our protagonist is pregnant...very pregnant, like going to give birth the next day pregnant. Our antagonist is a mentally deranged lady who wants the child and doesn't really want to wait to steal it from hospital after birth. The film is graphic and pretty disturbing, with a surprisingly high body count.

Man I really want to find sunglasses that look like the ones Arnold is wearing in The Terminator. They're so sexy.

7: Halloween

Why?: Seriously, do I need to explain why you should see this movie? No seriously, just watch it.
