Well, some internal 3D driver on my graphics card just went out, so I cannot run any 3D applications.

So now is the big question: Do I get a new graphics card or just bite the bullet and get a new computer?

I have a P4 2.66 Gh that is 5 years old running XP.

I am wondering if any of you out there have Vista, and how it compares with XP running DOD.

So.... help me out... what's my best option???

In My oppinion, I would get a new vista Computer, it really makes a difference between XP. So its up to you if you want to buy a new computer or just buy a graphics card..

If you can get a new system you should . You are several generations behind the biggest one is pci express which is an 16x leap over the graphics subsystem you have on your old machine. Stick with an nvidia card on the new machine. Also stick with XP , with Vista you will loose approx 20% of your speed.

Definitely a new computer. Also like the others have said, try to avoid vista if possible (XP is good for now) and make sure the video card is PCI express. So I think the latest is quad core computers.

zomg if only there was liek 5 zillion threads about this in some sort of tech forum. Oh well, maybe you should pm someone about that.

And honeslty people do you guys just make number up? I had admited on several occasions that you will see a performance decrese with vista in some frames per second - but where do you get off saying 20%. thats a huge number you just pulled out of your bum bum.

Secondly, i just updated my drivers again and this time i got a craptop more frames than last week - infact more than i got with XP, but to be fair, i havnt updates XP's drivers to this latest release so I will have to see about that later.
