The Loot
Hey guys, I thought I share how to increase the loot in your backpack while you can. This event got me paint, name tags, vintage hats and a handful of metals. :w00t:
My Backpack
Server
Generally, the gifts spawn randomly but to increase your chances there are a couple things you can do:
1. Find a norespawntimer Server (Instant Respawn)
2. Find a server where players are idling (minimum: 10 players to spawn gift)
3. Follow the server rules! (No killing, Taking turns picking up gifts, etc)
4. Play as a scout for speed and bonk!
Strategy
There are a couple places you want to be as a scout and you have to use the capture points as clues. There are 3 capture points in total. There are hundreds of spawning locations, but these locations increased my chances of finding them.
No Points Captured
When BLUE does not capture the first point, here are a few places you can run around to increase your chances.
Room in window or stairs
By Beds or stairs behind door
By the gate on right or stairs on left
First Point Captured
After the first point is captured, these are the places you will want to be around.
This room or stairs in front or hallway on right
Around point B below me
Hallways of the mansion here or room next door
Fireplace room in Mansion
The Gift Box
When the gift box first appears, it is transparent. Being the first person there does not mean you will get it. Drink your bonk to ensure no one can kill you when you touch the gift box. Make sure you are at the center of it and don't let anyone push you out. Once the gift box solidifies, a pyro can blow you off or you may get killed... but you will still get the gift box.
Trading
Now the hard part... you have to trade your masks. The idea is to find masks so you can trade them for items that your looking for. I traded my each of my masks for reclaimed metal, paint, keys, or name tags. You will find people who will ridicule you about the prices, but that's their opinion. In truth you will find many people who have hats, metals, keys, and paints to give away to save themselves the time of finding the gift boxes. Instead, I bought masks off of them for 1 scrap and resold them for reclaimed. This saved me a lot of time looking for gift boxes. Often times they don't even have masks and would often bluff to bring your prices down. You have to find as many people as you can so you will have to server hop. Eventually you will find select servers where people ask you to come back.
Tip
Fastest way to trade them is to trade the masks individually because everyone has at least 1 mask. If you want to trade entire set, your best bet is a hat not metals.
Event
The event runs till November 8. I would keep doing this due to the loot I made, but I don't have enough time. I made this post because I'm saying its possible. Don't let anyone tell you its ridiculous. I agree though, they ruined the event by giving the scouts an advantage. Happy Halloween
[edit] Event Gains: 3 Vintage hats, 1 Chieftain, 3 name-tags, 14 paint buckets, 4 Refined or 12 Reclaimed Metals.
I'm done with tf2, mission accomplished. Got everything I wanted to get.
