Hello everyone,

Thought I'd make a thread to discuss and review the new Goldeneye game on the Nintendo Wii.

Hope I don't really have to ask this, but please no Wii bashing, console war'ing or fanboyism. Let's have some civil discussion.

That being said, what do you think about it so far?

Honestly I'm not really sure yet. Part of me really wants it to ignite the old nostalgia of excitement I got during the hours and hours I spent playing the original Goldeneye, but the other (smaller) part of me realizes that if it was the same game I'd probably be complaining about what they messed up instead.

The levels are different, the objectives are new (and a tad confusing) and I've barely played into it to say anymore.

I will write again when I've spent some more time with it (which will hopefully happen later today). Look forward to reading other thoughts on it. From both old 64 fanatics like myself and from people who are for the first time playing a game with "Goldeneye" in the title, if there are any lol.

(P.S. The gold classic controller Pro is nice)

Caves & proxy mines imo (wink wink)

being exclusive for wii is going to break this game - if it was widely released it would be another classic no doubt

Was looking at it. I have a wii for the family, but don't ever play it. Scared it might hold it back, and I don't want to muddle memories of the awesome n64 original. Seems like sequels are messing a lot of things up lately.

I'm going to play it (even thought I don't have a wii) and see the best in it. If you don't want to muddle your memories of the original goldeneye, don't go looking for problems. I've played games like Perfect Dark Zero and never once thought it was a bad game. Sure I loved Perfect Dark, but I didn't let it get into my mind that was playing a game that was based on it (since it wasn't). The majority of people who hated Zero hated it because it wasn't enough like the original. All I could say (for Zero and this current situation) is if you want something like the original, go play the original! /rant

ill wait for it to come out on PC

either you didnt pay attention in the past or you werent a fanboy from the n64 days.

also the end of that college humor video made me chuckle. i wish i could make video game based videos like that. would make a butt load of $$.

Uhh... it's nintendo exclusive, like golden eye was.
either you didnt pay attention in the past or you werent a fanboy from the n64 days.
If you did not know someone is making it for pc. They have the multiplayer and they are working on the single player :/

the only thing ive found for the pc version is the source version of goldeneye, which didnt really get alot of attention. as far as i know the current goldeneye is only going to be released on the wii.

yea the same team is making the single player and the GoldenEye source was awesome!

I am actually playing it with a Classic Controller Pro. I haven't tried the Wii Mote and Nunchuck yet.

I think I've done enough to give it a "gut" reaction.

I do like it overall, and I think it passes as a modern shooter on the Wii. I like the stealth feel in the first few levels and now that I understand how to do smart phone objectives I feel better about the game as a whole.

The game is similar in that it follows the same base story. The levels are different and lengthened. I've only played the first four missions, and there are still many more to go.

Multiplayer is nuts, and I haven't played it non-stop since I bought the game so I got my butt kicked. There is a learning curve but I suspect it would be similar to trying out the COD games for the first time.

I'll keep playing, I'll keep you posted.

Overall I'd say I like the game.

I'm up to the winter outpost, which is like mission 5 or 6. It has a COD feel to it but that's ok in this case.

I think the missions emphasize being a secret agent very well. When you come into an area with guards you can sneak around, used silenced weapons and dispatch of them quietly. If you get spotted, they call in 4-5 more guards and you have an intense firefight on your hands.

Some of the secondary objectives are weird and they offer no help or hints leaving you to your imagination to try and figure it out. This gets frustrating at times (finding Zukovsky's documents in his office...) but otherwise for the most part they integrate into the main objectives really well.

I would say this is a quality game for the Wii and if you're looking for a shooter that you can invest in casually or hardcore, this will fit the bill.

Still haven't tried Multi player again, nor have I tried it without the Classic Controller Pro. Will post about those when I get a chance. Anyone else have any thoughts about it?

Nothing could relate to the original, simply because of the memories it brings back. It's a worthy attempt though. (The same could be said of most remakes by nature.)
