Ventrillo doesn't make noises

Ok, I'm completely stumped on this one.

Had vent for over 3 years. Works fine. Never even shut it down, just went AFK when I didn't want to talk. Got on today, and suddenly doesn't make any sounds. Button presses, voices, nothing, except when I initially log in it makes the little song, and it makes the 'ba bing' noise when I change rooms.

Tried redownloading and installing, tried rebooting, looked at the sound settings, looked at my computer's sound settings. Nothing's changed.

Also, I'm not stupid. I'm not muted and Mute Microphone/Binds is not on either.

Please help me out.

I'm running windows 7, if that helps.

Tried using different speakers or headsets? Testing that will help isolate the issue.

I don't have any good advice, just sympathy... I ran into some weird bugs running 64 bit Vent (yes, I'm on 64bit win7;)). I uninstalled and cleaned out its leftover config/registry stuff and installed the 32 bit version of Vent, no weird problems. But since you say you never had this problem before I doubt it's that.

But you might try wiping the Vent config files, it stores them somewhere in your Documents and Settings folder (not at home right now so I can't give specifics).

Also, I'm not stupid.
Mistakes happen. We wouldn't think any less of you if it was just your speakers going bad :P

Thing is, I just got this headset. It's an expensive one and a damn nice one. It's played well with vent just fine so far.

When I look at my mixer, even though someone is talking, the computer isn't getting any output, so I'm pretty sure it's vent's issue.

I fixed it!

Is your system sound configured for 5.1 or 7.1?
(XP - windows control-panel / sounds / click the ‘Advanced’ button in the ‘Speaker Settings’ section / speaker setup input box setting)
(Vista/Win7 – windows control-panel / sounds / Playback / select speaker device / ‘Configure’ button / Audio Channels)

If yes then:
Goto Vent setup/voice-binds-speech tabs / SFX button / Directional / Add “Front Left & Right 5.1 (or 7.1)”

From the Vent Forums Help Section, for future reference.
