GTX 580 on newegg.

basically $500 with the 10% discount.........still, would rather pickup 2x6850 or 2x6870 since they are pretty much faster/the same but cost less.

Or wait for the ATI 6900's to come out soon
 
It's not really necessary to own an uber gfx card like this ;)

I'd rather buy a 5770 and 4-5 games (maybe more)
 
According to the reviews I saw, it's just about on par with the 5970. Give and take, it still competes with it's price.

plus it is a single GPU card, so no worrying about game support, or micro-stuttering
 
I would get a Raedon HD 5870 or a GTX 470. And maybe a few new games.
 
It's a pretty sweet card if you ask me. $500 (from EVGA, with free shipping), 15-20% better than the 480, runs cooler, quieter, and consumes less power. What's not to like?

And then you have to deal with SLi drivers (not that they're bad, they just aren't as solid as single gpu), and micro-stuttering. Not all games suport SLi either (most do, but there are a few).

So 2 x 470's = $520, TDP = 430W

1x 580 = $500, TDP = 244W

The cost of the 470's is 104% compared to that of the 580. The performance is about 125% that of the 580. The power consumption is about 176% that of the 580. The 470 setup will also be a lot hotter and a lot louder. If you get the single 580, you can always add another one later on. If you go with the 470's your upgrade path is limited to tri-sli (if you have a tri-sli supported board), which doesn't scale so great, and if your monitor setup requires that much GPU horsepower, you will also need a lot more VRAM than a 470 offers.

Personally, I think the 580 is a much better choice. Now, if I had 2 470's, would I replace them with a 580? No. But if I was just now making a decision, 580 all the way.

c'mon tho seriously, my one 470 max's out everygame i have right now, and by the time that the 470 isnt running games on high, the 580 will be old news, dont get me wrong i have seen the benchies, and they r good, but when u already run all games (almost) over 60fps with maxed out settings, whats the point?

If you look at performance/cost the 5770 is still very nice. And they're cheap enough to get a second one and xFire them , you'll only have spent around $300 and have a quite respectable graphics ability. That, and the 5770 overclocks pretty nicely.

I had a 5890 card go bad in one of my boxes and picked up a cheap 5770 to replace it. I am pleasantly surprised with how well it has run. It's definitely not a high end card, but they're nothing to sneeze at. :)

Ima wait to see what ATI comes back with the 6900 series

The GTX 580 isn't a bad card tho....but its not really $500, theyre actually about $560 but theres just 10% discount which is putting them at $500 currently.

Its definitely what the GTX 480 should've been though
