GTX 580 on newegg.

They send me emails for that bad boy just about every week but I won't be playing on that card until about 2013 when it's like $150
I call that tactical shopping!
 
I just got my 6850. I don't think I'll be upgrading to Nvidia for another generation. I like their performance, but too much damn power consumption.

btw heres the AMD GPU roadmap that was just released. Look like 5970 and 5950 will be coming out soon before the end of the year and the 5990 will be coming out Q1 of next year.

It costs the same as the 5970

It is on par with the 5970, performs better in games that don't support SLI/CF, doesn't have to deal with ATI drivers, and is less giant

I think it is pretty good

So it's competing with a dual GPU card, yet it's real competition is against the upcoming 6900, which is unknown as to how it performs. Those will be competitively priced.
$500 is in no way competitive.

yea, if the 6990 is priced at $500 (it wont if it performs better), then nvidia will have to pull something out of their hat real fast to keep up

I doubt they would sell it for more than $400. Even if it's performance is within a 10% margin, it wouldn't cost more than the Nvidia counterpart.
 
Why would they sell it for cheaper? It's the best *performing* card out there (I'll give it the benefit of the doubt against the 5970 since it's a single chip card). It'll get cheaper when it has real competition.

Half a grand is a lot for one component, no matter how well it performs.

Obviously. But people will pay that much. Not me, I stick to the GTX 460 range cards, and then usually add another in SLi later. But if people are willing to pay it, then they will charge it. Once there's a better option for that price or lower, then they will sell it for cheaper.
 
I think $350-400 is my limit, unless I'm going to be making like $10k a month.
