Hello fellow eGOers!
So as the title suggest VENT HATES MACS!
I dipped my toes (i actually doves head over heels) into WoW, and i found this problem SOMETIMES, Mac clients arent supported on vent, im not sure if you need to upgrade Vent to something more expensive to include poor little Mac users like me, but to the best of my ability i havent been able to get eGO's vent to work on my computer. Keep in mind i do have the built in sound card, everything is stock in this computer. Maybe its NBD, but id love to share my smooth sexy voice with all of you on vent ;) Anyways, let me know what you think, or if you have troubleshooting on how i could possible make it work! Thanks people, much love!

To my knowledge, which is extremely limited as I have not used a MAC before, you may only join the "Speex" rooms.

So, you should be able to join a few rooms in every division and section. Sorry, but that's the inconvenience of using a MAC for you.

Nope...you need to upgrade your system to something that works for gaming :)

I'm just kidding around. We do have a number of rooms set up for Mac users, labeled with the comment "(Speex)", to show that they're running that particular codec instead of the standard Windows one. Each division should have at least one Speex-enabled room, and there are a few others floating around as well that you should be able to join.

When you join ventrilo on Mac OSX, just find your nearest speex room. Each division is guaranteed to have at least one per our ventrilo policy.

If you are having problems speaking in ventrilo after you join, make sure you click the setup button at least once. Mac OSX has some issues adjusting to the speex channels. Once you click setup, then okay, you should be able to talk no problem.

I use vent for Mac everyday at work. I can't visit every channel I want, but it does the job.

Hey Cowboy killer, I'm a mac user.. I have an iMac, and i manage to use Vent on here, i stay in the "speex" channels, because Im playing DOD:S, and C-Whit had made the channels all "speex" friendly, so if you see a channel with "speex" applied, your vent should work fine. :)

i have a mac.. i cant talk in game tho.. when im just in the speex room i can talk just fine.. get in game and i can not talk to the other ppl in my room

This is due to mac not having a GSM 6.10 codec, you could just join the speedx channels or you can virtualize vent in crossover or wine if your feeling adventurous.

I am currently have vent running on my mac in wine using WineBottler (http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/)

I installed vent using WineBottler and from there I copied the GSM 6.10 codec out of the windows system32 directory (C:\WINDOWS\system32\msgsm32.acm) and placing it in wine's system32 directory most of the time its (~/Wine Files/drive_c/windows/system32)

Then Edit the system.ini file (~/Wine Files/drive_c/windows/system.ini) of wine to have these 2 lines:
Code:
"msacm.msg711"="msgsm32.acm"
"msacm.msgsm610"="msgsm32.acm"

Crossover(http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxmac/) is simpler but is not free

Good luck!

I have a better solution:

Dont use vent at all XD, the ShoutBox is compatible for every OS!
