Ok, so right before school started I got and iPad. I thought I would use it for taking notes and checking e-mail on the go. I did at first, but now I pretty much just play games on it.

Sooo, I was thinking of selling it with a cover and a bluetooth keyboard for $500. Its in excellent condition and has had a screen cover on since day 5.

Then I could upgrade my computer with the following:

Motherboard
CPU
RAM I'd get 2 of these. 8GB RAM!!!
Hard Drive This would host my OS, my programs would be run off my current 2 TB drive.
Case

I already have a decent graphics card and a power supply.

What do you guys think? Should I sell my iPad and upgrade my PC?

It depends o what you like, if you are only using the iPad for games and not for the web, movies, or music then I would sell it. If you still need it to take notes I would keep it, comparing a netbook to an ipad is like comparing a cell phone to a land line. A netbook wont get you 10 hours of battery, wont perform as well on the web and wont support games. Unlike a lot of people here I would not call the ipad "useless". It is great for passing times, watching movies, listening to music, taking notes, and most importantly going on the web which in my opinion is the best thing about it. I wouldn't sell mine so I could get a new computer thats for sure.

Sell iPad, post in my build thread, or at least use the format for requests in there. I could put out a upgrade path for you.

I'm with reflex and Phobus on this. Get rid of the iPad and upgrade the PC. I actually got a chance to fool around with the iPad and after awhile, it's novelty wore off. It's fine for what it's capable of doing, but nothing hugely spectacular for me.

If you are using the Ipad for games and not just web surfing, and music I would reccomend selling it and upgrading the computer.

Ph?bus is really good at what he does making computer builds / upgrades so I recommend doing that build thread.

Thanks guys, and Ph?bus, do I need to post in your thread or can you just tell me what you think of my upgrade. (the parts are hyperlinked at the top) Cuz I have picked out what I want, i'm just not sure if its that great. I already have a beast video card and PSU as well as a 1 TB hard drive.

So I can see what you have now, get Speccy, and take a screenshot. Also tell me what PSU you have, and the model.

E/ The parts you picked out are alright, but there is no need for 8GB. It won't make you get any higher FPS over 4GB. Unless you're compiling videos and doing intensive After Effects work, you don't need 8GB of memory.
The harddrive isn't a good choice because of shipping.
The case is jank. You'd regret buying it after you buy it.

Ok, I am not at my desktop right now, so I will post the stuff from speccy later, but I tell you some other stuff now.

I am going to be some pretty intense 3D animation and video editing next semester so I think justifies it. I also do some pretty intense Photoshopping (I have a 1 GB PSD I am working on now). About the hard drive. It is enterprise-class and the reviews say it hardly fails. I was thinking of running my OS from there and my other games and apps from my 1TB. and the shipping isn't that bad when I add it to the cart. All together the shipping is like 22 bucks for everything. Should I still go for that hard drive? or a different one. I took your advice and found a nicer case (I think) here it is: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811156241

Also, I am not looking to get a beast video card yet. I have a kind of crappy one right now that gets the job done, but with my schools rules on gaming (If you want to know the story, check out the thread "Whats up with boyscout?") I won't be able to do any legit gaming until next summer.

How does that look? I'll get you the other info as soon as I get back to my desktop.

Ohhh, do you know how to make a wish list public on newegg? I cannot figure out how too :(

Thanks a ton Ph?bus!!

Alright. So if you are doing such intense, cpu intensive activities, why not get a Thuban or Bloomfield, then go with 8GB/12GB of memory?
The harddrive has almost $10 shipping, so it's in reality the price of a 1TB (it was a 500GB, right?). You should get the Barracuda 7200.12 right now. 1TB for $55 with free shipping. Go go go!
That case is still pretty bad. RAIDMAX isn't that great of a company. For cases under $50, look at Rosewill. If you want a $60 case, go with the HAF 912.

To make a wishlist public, you go to your wishlists page, then check the box that says "Publish" or "Make Public", then click "Accept". You have to wait an hour or so for it to be validated by Newegg.

Hey guys, sorry for taking so long for replying to this thread, I have been super busy with school.

Anyway, I went ahead and sold my iPad for more than I bought it for :) and upgraded my PC.

Here is what I got (it doesn't have like the super newest components, but it runs bloody well fast)

BIOSTAR A770E3 AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD Athlon II X4 640 Propus 3.0GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor
Rosewill CRUISER Black Gaming ATX Mid Tower Computer Case with Side Panel Window and Four Fans
Mushkin Enhanced Silverline 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666)
A 500 GB HDD for the OS, a 2 TB HDD for everything else (makes it mad fast....)
750 Watt PSU
XFX GS250XYDFV GeForce GTS 250 Core Edition Video Card - 512MB DDR3, PCI Express 2.0, (2) Dual Link DVI ( came with a free Alien vs Predator Game....can't wait to try it out)
22 inch moni

I already had some of the stuff......but it is a good build (I think)

Thanks Ph?bus for your advice, I greatly appreciate it...even though I never got around to posting my speccy stuff.
