A thoughtful discussion

I first played age of empires 3 online and bought the 2 expansions after. I then started playing Unreal Tournament 2004 and moved into TF2 and Unreal Tournament 3 and finally into Starcraft 2 :).

1998 Tom Clancys Rainbow Six. HOLY CRAP that game was fun. First taste of online fps.
It was all down hill after that........my social life that is. There would be a party going on around me with hot chicks and everything, as I was sitting at the table in the dining room (that is where they had to install the modem) killing fools and laughing to myself. Pretty sad now that I look back on it, but whatever, Rainbow Six never cheated on me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Started out by playing Age of Empires 2 with my dad. My first FPS was Star Wars: Battlefront and I played that a lot, and some online. But the first true FPS I played online a lot was Star Wars: Republic Commando, which I played every day when I got home from school (7th grade I believe). Moved on to CoD2 (no online, but did LAN with my dad), and later CoD4, which is how I discovered eGO (after a friend showed me our server). I then got TF2 and here I am today.

Tl;dr, the reason I'm a pathetic loser who hits on girls he's never met (and consequently gets beat up) is AoE2

OMG, This was the game that got me to play online. That and Starcraft was about the same time. Although, technically I played more Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear and RRainbow Six: Blackthorn a BIT more.

Most people in eGO are too young to remember that.

That was first online gaming experience really, I was playing many games on my Atari 5200 (I know not as old as the 2600), NES, and I spent a lot of time on my SNES. I did a few old computer games as well, but nothing too specific.

Oh yeah, I remember those. A friend of mine ran a BBS (Bulletin Board System - before the Internet cam into being) off an Amiga. My first computer was a Commodore VIC-20 and then upgraded to a Commodore 64 later.

honeslty my first online game Deltaforce back like in like i think like 1996 ish or so...on dail up...it was hell just to get the game to work...then i got into cod2, bf2, bf2142, css, and more recently tf2, back to css again, insurgency, i played the new battlfeild but it doesn't keep me coming back

I tend to stick to a few good games rather than what ever is new...honestly im straight sickened by the newest COD's and i just can't seem to grasp bfbc2 so i don't play it

The first computer game I ever remember playing was my dad's copy of "Pool of Radiance", the first AD&D-based game for the PC. This was of course, several years after I was born (I was born in 1987, the game came out in 1988). I still have the original copies of the game, as well as the code wheels and everything.

Oh, let's not forget SSI's "Great Naval Battles" series, which I so fondly remember playing as a kid.

I also remember playing Doom / Doom II, Hexen / Hexen II, Descent, Duke Nukem 3D.

Air Warrior III was my first online game though (back when AOL was the only choice!) on dial-up. I remember flying B-17 bombers and being a B-17 gunner in a squadron. Oh the memories of that game.

I then picked up Delta Force, and then played all the Delta Force games through Delta Force Xtreme. It was one of my favorite games, and I was part of a clan that was arguably number one in the community (Team Pinoy). Delta Force Land Warrior was absolutely my favorite though.

Worms: Armageddon holds a special place in my heart and to this day I STILL play the game, which surprisingly, has a thriving community still. The game even has a beta patch and a utility/registry tweak that allows Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 to play the game.

I would have to say my next "defining" online game was Counter-Strike, which I picked up in 2001. This was back during the WONID days, and I even remember my old WONID: 2065603. Over the years I have competed all the way though CAL (made it to Invite for one season), helped out United Admins, enjoyed seeing people banned by HLGuard, worked for a gameserver provider, and then started my own gaming communities. I still play Counter-Strike 1.6 to this day, as well as own a very much alive and popular CS 1.6 gaming community.

In between Counter-Strike and today, I have played a multitude of games that are memorable:

Star Wars: Rebel Assault II, X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter, Earth 2150, Caesar III, Sim City 3000, Baldur's Gate, Falcon 4.0, Silent Hunter I and II, Battlefield 1942, Planetside, Star Wars Galaxies.. and the list goes on.

Ahh yes, I remember that game. I had it for the Commordore 64, I believe.

I never knew there were so many computer games prior to the mid 90's lol. Is there somewhere to look up all of these old games?
I remember playing some space game on one of those big black floppy disks and I can't remember the name of it. Basically you could travel to different places in space and buy and sell different things. That's all I remember now.

I played Diablo (the first one) when it first came out online. I think that was the one.
