Benchmarking Thread!

If you notice, everyone who participates has DX11 GPUs.
I think we should do tess @ normal, just because having it at extreme will favor nvidia cards a lot.

I know it's not biased, and I know it's true that AMD doesn't handle tessellation as well as Nvidia. Let's not exploit that.

thats only because ati decided to release first so nvidia with their 460s etc has more updated and more optimized hardware for tess

It's because AMD only put in a few geometry cores or whatever powers tessellation (can't think right now, too much HTML), while Nvidia put 16 of them in the GF100.

nv has 1 tesselation redering engine per cluster, while AMD uses a single engine for all the clusters.

since fully unlocked fermi consists of 16 clusters, there are 16 tesselation enigines on a 580

This bench makes me feel like I have a crappy computer. :(
And we are going to use the score this time.

Guys, I hate to throw a wrench into the works here, but the 11.2 Cat's now give the user direct override control over tessellation performance. I guess it goes without saying that you must keep it at application settings. If you don't, it will be obvious. Tessellation is one of those features that doesn't benefit from a lot of overclocking.

My previous benchmark was run on CCC 11.1.

I'll likely bench again on CCC 11.2.

lol im still running 10.10 cause the others were really bothering me, maybe i'll update now and rerun, see if theres any improvement (doubt it)

In 11.2 there is an option for "AMD optimized tessellation", which is ON BY DEFAULT.

I changed it over to "Use application settings" and my score actually went slightly up, so I'm not so sure it does much of anything.

I've included a shot that shows my CCC settings so you can see what I'm talking about.
