New headphones

I use Turtle Beach's X1's or whatever with their dolby surround sound peripheral. Not the best quality, but it gets the job done - I mainly bought the headset for console use and then my brother bought the surround sound thing because he's console obsessed. Bonus points for me because I can use that to make it work on my PC .

yessss good choice man. AKG's are amazing, i like the Q701 which is part of the quincy jones line. It's stylish and still amazing.

LMAO, gotta have at least a little substance....i have the Creative Labs MKII, i got em for $50 instead of $100, for music the bass is a little week, but for games (DOD:S) you can hear foot steps amazing, the mid to highs are just flat out awesome, best gaming headset i have had thus far, for music i have in ear skullcandy, and as far as brands go, skullcandy more often than not have amazing bass, i even have a snowboard helmet with build in skullcandy hesh drivers lol, talk about bass, it literally says vibrate instead of bass boost lmao

I know they're expensive; they're Aleinware. What I'm asking is, are they actually worth the insane price tag, or are they typical of anything Alienware and way too overpriced?

Skullcandy headphones are known to be really bad, actually, in terms of sound quality.
The generally accepted tier list for gaming headphones is something like

1. Sennheiser pc350
2. Logitech g35
3. Turtle Beaches, Tritton
4. Plantronics, razer, alienware, etc

If skullcandy were gaming headphones and put on here they would be like tier 5 and apple earbuds tier 6. Of course there are also better sound quality headphones than the sennheiser but they go up to $500+. Though if you aren't an audiophile you probably will enjoy the SC ones just fine

Cool. But I wouldn't be using them for gaming. I already have a Turtle Beach headset. I just want some good ear buds with lots of bass for my iPod. I'm not exactly expecting to get some 5.1 surround sound out of an earbud, just good quality.

I'm a musician, and my Skullcandy's aren't half bad. Granted, I would like some better headphones, but these ones aren't bad for the price I got them at (not full price).

Wheres the steelseries??? They're up there in terms of performance and price. Probably right after the Logitech.

In that case I'd recommend the Klipsch S4, which are pretty cheap for the quality.

I will definitely look into them. Wasn't expecting $80 but you say they're cheap for the quality and that gets me excited.

Yea the Klipsch S4 have been reviewed as some of the best sounding in ear headphones and they are super cheap for the sound quality.

I've listened to them and theyre pretty good, only thing i noticed was that there wasn't that much bass compared to the Beat tours i have and listen to. Otherwise, theyre definitely worth the price.

I hate to crash the party but most people don't actually go out and listen to different headsets and headphones. Headsets are regarded by most people in the headphone community as being overpriced and of poor build quality. I have listened to a lot of different headphones setups everything from a cheap HD280 all the way up to a $5000 headphone only setup. I think I know my stuff but the people I'm going to quote have experience beyond mine.

These are all folks at head-fi.org the premiere source of all things headphones and their opinions on typical gaming headphones.

The steelseries headsets aren't "horrible", but they're massively overpriced for what they offer

theres a number of higher fidelity options in the same $60-$100 price range that'll provide better performance with both gaming and music, if you'd even consider taking suggestions from someone who isn't a youtube celebrity

I'd suggest you look at the Sennheiser HD 555 or 280Pro (one is open, one is closed, afaik the siberia is semi-open, so if isolation isn't a large concern the 555 would probably be a better move) or Denon AH-D501k or D1001k (the 1001 will likely be a strech on your budget)

Just some food for thought, go check out the forums. Stop taking all their marketing and spending money on overpriced headsets. To be honest how many of you have actually gone out and tried out different headphones. This isn't a computer you can't just compare specs.

I'd say my $15 Turtle Beach headset is more than worth the cash I spent on it. They work and the sound quality is a lot better than a lot of those crap ear buds companies throw at you to make it look like you're getting a deal *cough*apple*cough*.

The reason I like the AX180 is because of it's universal quality, in my opinion the ability to have a mic at any time for all major gaming consoles today (PS3, Xbox360, Wii, PC, Mac) is a true virtue. My only complaint with it is the rubber top, it keeps rubbing my scalp and making it very itchy. But i'm not much of an audiophile, and I actually like the sound quality. I decided to use my Skullcandy for my iPod, at least I got rid of those horrific ear buds and now have a (in my opinion) good pair of headphones.

If you get it at that price then sure, sounds like a good deal to me. But in general yes, headsets are overpriced and built to not last a very long time. How many stories of headsets being broken have you heard of? It's ridiculous.

If you are spending 50-60 bucks get something which is built well and sounds good.

I have been trying to decide between the AKG k240 studio and Sennheiser HD 555 for an all-around good headphone. Well, mostly for gaming and movies. I just recently purchased the ATH-M50. It sounded pretty good for music, but it performed horrible in games. I was told it's because of its poor soundstage. I'm getting the uDac-2 delivered tomorrow. I hope it will help a little.

AKG K 240 Studio and for the mic im actually just got a sure sm-57 laying on a small mic stand on my desk.

and overall skull candy sounds like rubbish they just have fanboys going on about how good they are without actually have the sound or build quality they should for there cost.


but above all just listen to the damn things first everyone ear is different and some people don't notice bad quality and some people do notice it and get driven crazy by it.

all of my headphones and studio monitors i either listened to before buying or i bought them because my work uses them and i am used to them.
