I recently bought my pc from alienware and about 2-4 mouths later a ATI graphics card update comes out and when i update my graphics card it does not have my whole desktop in full screen there is a big part of it is a black border i can't click on or move stop there my monitor is 1920X1080 i looked at the resolution and it was set right but still had about the 1 inch black border around the desktop i back my pc up to the graphics diver that works with my screen. so i do not know if there is a way to fix it or should i stay on the old on and if there is a way to fix it how

If you use an HDMI connection, it may be seeing your monitor as a HDTV instead of a monitor. Check your ATI Control Panel for anything related to HDTV Overscan settings and turn it up until it fills your screen again.

If that doesn't work, fiddle around in your monitor's display settings menu and see if you can find anything there that might fix it, related to image adjustments like size/position/etc.

If you're using an HDMI cable, then go into CCC, and look for "scaling", and change it to 0%.
Or use a DVI cable. :P

i found the scaling option thank you so much this was really making me angry
