DirectX Issues during TF2

I have DirectX 11 on my computer
TF2 only runs DirectX 8
Updated DX and my graphics card
Nothing works

Is it just TF2 or all Source engine games?

You might want to try updating drivers, verifying game cache, or deleting clientregistry.blob. But those are just general very non-specific troubleshooting.

Only have TF2 downloaded so I am unable to test other source games.

Tested, no results.

Well crap. Anyways, I was just asking because if you can't run any games at all, then it's more likely to be a hardware issue. But if it's just TF2 then it's a software issue. See where I'm going with this?

Anyways, I'm stumped. I'll let someone more experienced try their hand at it.

The source engine can run up to DX9. Try using the dxlevel 9 (if I'm not mistaken) in-game.

Navigate to your TF2's config file (\Steam\steamapps\account\team fortress 2\cfg\config.cg. Make the dxlevel change in there, then make the file read only.

More importantly, your graphics card?
Also, have you tried to use any FPS configs? Those usually switch the dxlevel to 8.

AMD dual 4800+ 2.5 ghz
geforce 9800GT
750 watt
2gb of ram

i tried some before but i have been in dx8 for a while. i renamed my config file so it went to defaults and the same problem.

Don't rename it. Make the change in the config.cfg and check Read-Only. Or just try Phobus' FPS config idea.

Dang That sucks Maybe if you give it some time it will go back to normal
