I would like to direct all members to this thread. It is very sad that I have to bring it up again.

http://www.edgegamers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=141593

Today, while slacking in class, I went to the the CS:S Contest Ban thread. I quickly skimmed page one and two, and counted at minimum, 13 contest bans from members. There could be more. There could be PLENTY more that weren't even contested. Twenty threads are posted per page on the board (for my settings), so this is completely unacceptable.

I would like all =(e)=?'s (and others if you feel you need to) to read the thread I linked above. I don't care if you sign off, because it's not in my power to demand that, but I ask that you read it.

You should be a model student in your class 1st >:P

Anwayz, yeap, we saw alot of members especially e ranked keep getting banned, especially in Jail server. Remember, when you signed up for e tag, you are taken more seriously. No second or third chance if you get yourself in trouble. *Depends on your crime* Reaaaly recommend fellow e rank members to check out the link. :)

Thank you Jayflip

Recently members have been getting very out of line and back talking admins and even arguing with admins when their wrong.

Our members need to show more maturity, its getting ridiculous.

Agreed. 100% full out agreed. When you become a member, you agree to the rules, and thus should follow them

Thank god for someone like JayFlip.

Yes. The =(e)=?'s are the recruits of our great clan. They should be the models for all pubs and should encourage fun gameplay. Also, we should be having ANY members having to do a Ban Contest. You joined this clan because you liked the way that there was no cursing, no segregation, no racism, etc. So PLEASE, for =(eGO)=?'s sake, try to show some maturity, and be more of a model in the servers.

Let's not allow this to go too far before some things are remembered.

All eGs and eGOs are held to higher standards than es because they are in positions of SERVITUDE. The rules are by no means meant to be more strict for es, nor is there any inherent power besides that granted in-server for any admins, or in-forum for the moderators. eGO is created and, intended for use by, es. eGO is about the people it recruits, not the people it elects to mop the floor.

So, before any of you people with "power" start looking at any of us and saying things like "for shame that an E should behave this way and get themselves banned", remember that if there is any social status to be had here, its BY US, not you. Remember, that the maximum enjoyment to be on these servers is by the pubbers who become Es, NOT OUR JANITORS WHOM WE PERMIT TO HAVE A LIMITED AMOUNT OF IN GAME ABILITY, which is specifically granted so you can do our work for us.

This spiel should sound familiar, because its how America designed it's government. Being part of it does not make you a celebrity, it means you are less than one of us. That you are here to serve.

With all of that being said, half of the Es I run into don't really reflect the type of behavior I want to be associated with since I've bothered to even be in a clan, which in this case is more like a club, one rated pg-13. Its nice to cater to content being clean enough for kids (even though you have to be at least 17 to buy the games for all or at least most of our divisions), but that's the maturity we attract be being all about children here (and don't tell me its not. This is nothing but a majority of adults behaving for the virgin ears and eyes of the handful of kids that play with us, 99% of whom I swear don't just have a mic but don't belong using one).

There are definitely members and admins alike that are the reason I don't mind wearing this tag and being a part of something like our group, so the keyboard warriors on here can settle down and stop strapping on their finger armor to go into battle. I like playing with eGO.

Just remember, their are a lot of impressionable es who still think admin is something you aspire to become or some special position of power and prestige and these people have no idea about anything yet. So, when you guys abuse your handful of powers and ACT like morons (withOUT the involvement of your abilities) by just typing, doing or saying stupid nonsense, you set a bad example for the people that still don't realize it should be THEM setting it.

Of course, I'm behind the motd, server rules, member agreement. I know we don't argue with admins in the the middle of a situation and all that. I'm here to make sure that people realize I DO know that. I think we would have a lot less idiot members doing things like that and like getting banned if we stopped having recruiting drives with awards and prizes and just getting any old person we can to join in the hopes that the numbers game of recruiting ANYone we can in the hopes that out of every so-many-people ONE might donate ONCE. I know stuff costs money, but thats on our creators for wanting their own environment that they can control and not have to be "promoted" to admin.

Maybe we should start looking for quality members and DEFINITELY take a second hard look at our admin staff to make sure they are all up to snuff. I bet half of the es wouldn't be getting banned every five minutes if we cleaned some house with the admins. I bet the other half getting banned deserve it. THAT we need to keep up.

Leadership does their best to promote responsible members and if an admin is acting improperly, revoking their abilities do happen from time to time.

If you have a problem with any admin, dropbox it and be part of the solution that way.

:)

^ Dido (kind of) (to cool breeze); While a lot of the time it may be the es doing something wrong. There is an equal amount of time that either the admins make mistakes, don't know the updated rules, twist the rules in their favor, or just do things plain old wrong. There are a lot of good admins, but some admins take it too seriously or let the little power they have go to them. There are a lot of situations where admins will say one thing and do the exact opposite, like for instance when teams are unbalanced or stacked, a lot of admins wont give up their ct spot, but will ask over admin chat to balance teams. I'm in NROTC and in the Marine Corps and in the ROTC program there are 10 leadership principles and 14 leadership traits, one of those principles is "Set the example". I think it is the most important, because if I (or an admin) is not willing to do something as a leader, then people wont follow that leader.

Cool breeze if you have any specific problems you should utilize the drop box or contact a member of leadership.

P.S. I wouldn't go as far to compare the admins to Janitors, maybe to security guards or something but not a janitor.

I'll keep that in mind. Thanks. :)

My post was made with the same intention of the OP, to be directed at the group at large. Not at any one person in particular.

Believe you me, I would have a much easier time listing all of the admins and regular members that I think belong in this organization than I would the handful that get me all miffed on occasion. I certainly didn't post to seem ungrateful of eGO or anyone in it.

I do however feel posts like the one that started this thread need to be addressed as quickly as possible. Even if the OP isn't suggesting the wrong thing, some readers might pick up on things that aren't there, or things the OP didn't mean to imply.

I saw the original post and wanted to make sure no one had it in their heads that being an admin is anything to celebrate. I wanted to make sure that my fellow E's knew its US that should be setting the example. Then I merely stated my opinion that maybe we wouldn't have so many problematic members if quality was more stressed during recruiting than quantity.

I should've known a Marine would be one of the first and few to understand :). My money says like an average of 3 out of 5 follow ups will disagree with us lol. I feel pretty comfortable saying almost anyone who does is probably guilty of what the OP or myself had highlighted, wanting to come in here and defend all of their shennanigans. At this point, I'm expecting all of the "inb4 teh lawk" posts, hehe

If people actually read the "start here" thread then there's a good chance this would never happen, at least we should start quizzing people on their applications to see if they even bothered to read it. (Additional questions, etc)

Cool Breeze. That's some pretty heavy stuff that does offend people (even though I do get your point). To prevent my emotions from getting into my comments I will keep it short and sweet. I fully support eGO's mentality on recruiting. For how are we to judge a book by its cover? Lots of the respectable memebers you see today weren't exactly model eGO members.

In recruiting, we look for those diamonds but those diamonds have the initiative to join eGO without prompting from recruiters anyway. You'll find that if you shine some other rocks, then they'll shine just as bright :) (Wow that was a stupid analogy)

But back on track, I just don't think enough members are actually reading the code of conduct properly when applying. And lots just lose their cool in the game, my advice is to ragequit. Honestly, don't do anything stupid in the server. Ragequitting prevents you from doing something that you'll regret (common after getting freekilled)

Many lives have been spared this day...

Players that are/have been banned should be given the boot from Edgegamers in my opinion. It's one thing to have a bad day and swear at someone but another to break a rule so many times that you get banned for it.

I take offense to that lol, leadership people know why.

Shadow19 - You first. There is no end to how win that was. Its like someone poured epic-sauce all over you as you made that post.

Po Lice - Everyone should be able to contest being banned. Imagine if YOU were banned, for instance, by an unscrupulous admin with a bone to pick with you. If you did nothing wrong, you would certainly want the ability to have that ban appealed. eGO affords that opportunity to everyone, as well they should.

Wind - I don't think I disagree with anything you said. I'll read it again later. For now though, the point of recruiting drives in MOST organizations is to raise the likelihood that a member will contribute financially. No one really cares who has the biggest organization on the internet, so there is no motivation there to win some kind of popularity contest. The hope is, recruit 1000, maybe 1 will donate to server costs. More exclusive organizations tend to recruit on things like skill, people they are already friends with IRL, etc.. Usually those smaller groups are funded by the owner (because overhead is low), or they all work together and all donate as much as they can because they have some kind of interest in keeping the server\organization afloat. Usually these guys play competitively and aren't your every day pubbers. With organizations like ours, its about getting numbers in to help pay for everything. Is that how ours works? Ask the owners. I know they legitimately WANT quality people here. But how they recruit may be all about what I'm saying. If 1 donates to cover cost, the other 999 aren't suddenly irrelevant. But, maybe 500 go inactive after a week to a month and we never see them again, 300 get banned or ragequit the team and then 199 become active members, some admins, and maybe a few more over time reach the financial stability they need to be ABLE to donate and at any point would if they could.

I'm not saying our recruiting policy is all about paying for a guy (or a few guys) dreams of being a control freak on as many different game servers and internet forums as possible. I'm saying we *probably* would be more exclusive as to who we recruited in the first place if money wasn't an issue.

I agree a lot with one of the things you said. Sometimes people have to become a better member through being one, instead of being a perfect recruit. Sometimes, being immersed in the right environment will help an individual catch the vision of what the organization is all about. Once they have sort of a fever for the group they belong to, they may go right back to all of the new recruit threads and re-read them all the time and try to be the best member they can, donate, contribute anything they can (perhaps they have a knack for designing maps for instance) and overall, work day in and day out towards being a better member and better person. I think a lot of dedicated people started out signing up just to do it and over time transform into the kind of example setters we need. That's one place you and I definitely see eye to eye.

Obviously I'm not saying a ban would warrant an insta-kick, you'd still have the chance to contest it. But what I'm saying is if you constantly break rules and are constantly disciplined and banned then it may be time to re-think your standing in Edgegamers.

We're supposed to be role-models for the server's we play on.
