... 80 Celsius... Really?

My jaw dropped the second I saw this in Everest. I had been watching a movie using my mom's laptop (movie was White Noise) and I had it connected to the entertainment system in the living room. The movie is 1 hour 37 minutes long.

20C more and I could boil water with the CPU. :blink:

Anyone else ever had this happen?

Not really, considering I had a cooling mat under it the entire movie.

that is normal for laptop. If it really worries you, make sure there is no dust in the vents

Some Intel's can get to 100c and still have no problem.

My laptop runs like 85ish gaming

It has two fans.....I just got one of them replaced because I dropped it and it broke one. Also to answer the original question, when watching a movie and on a cooling mat, that is a little high. Mine usually is at 60 while watching a movie and I don't own a cooling mat.

The i7 MBP isnt exactly known for its thermal management

Well, this laptop normally averages 65C under stress, WITHOUT the cooling mat.

80C from a movie WITH a cooling mat is a bit extreme...

No problems with it, though. So no need to have this thread in the Tech Help section.

My laptop runs around 60 with its cool pad playing BC2. But my pad just died so its around 65+ when in BC2.

If it's an older computer, the dust build up could easily contribute to it.

Sad that you have to deal with the thermal dissipating shortfalls of a laptop. One of the prices you pay for the convenience of a smaller footprint!
