Hello,

I just bought GTA IV Complete edition on steam, I installed GTA IV.
And this is the result:

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VXhn2rkalo[/ame]

A slow starting and glitching game. Object just disapear, how farther i go away from my save point where i started, the world gets less objects. Really anoying.

I used to play this game with a AMD Athlon X2 64 4200+ 2,1 Ghz dual core CPU.
And now i got the AMD phenom II X2 555 BE @ 3.4 Ghz.

So i dont see why this GTA is being so anoying.

I was thinking of overclocking my CPU to like 3.6 Ghz (default is 3.2)
Or put it back to 3.2 Ghz. I thought maybe that would fix the problem.

Can anyone help me?:(

Thanks,

~Bird.

wow thats really wierd :P ill ask my friend later today, he used to have a simular problem with gta iv

Yes maybe it is a video card.

At GTA IV settings you see an amount of memory you can use. On my computer its 1GB, prob my videocard size.

If im trying to put everything on max settings, its says i went over the limit. And if try to put everything on max, it gives a videocard error and the game shuts down.

But its strange, becuas it would mean you need a videocard of 2GB to play GTA Iv on max settings. and thats not true becaus i used to be able to put it on max settings.
And that would mean you can't play GTA IV with a Sapphire HD 4870 1GB DDR5 videocard, which isnt true.

somebody got an explanation for this?:)

Have you tried reinstalling the game? maybe there was an error somewhere in the download

No not yet, but i got the game on steam, the max download speed is 830kb/s, so it takes like 7 hours to download again. Im only gonna do that if nothing else works.

Try just verifying the installation from the Steam library. It's a lot faster then reinstalling.

Well my first question is, how old is the video card?

Try defragmenting the game files. I get issues similar to that in GTA4 (though not nearly as pronounced) when my HDD is running low on bandwidth (doing other read/writes). If that doesn't help run some HDD speed tests to make sure your drive is still performing at a decent rate. GTA4 never runs smooth on the PC, but should do better than that. I would also turn down the detailed view distance and all settings temporarily.

The missing texture thing is gone for now.

But now we got another problem..... textures dont load quick enough. I see everything, but the details havent appeared yet. If you wait it comes, pretty fast but its still annoying.

Is this becaus i dont have a fast enough CPU, GPU? Or not enough memory? Or not good enough memory?

I played on medium/high settings, and my pc specs are:

AMD Phenom II X2 555 BE @ 3.7 Ghz
Sapphire HD 4870 1 GB DDR5.
2GB RAM DDR2-667 memory.

^^ Your specs are more than fine blackbird, maybe adding more ram to the question may increase performance i know that GTA4 needs a lot of memory.

Well I got windows 7 32 bit, so more then 3GB won't work. I might buy 3GB when i got the money tho, maybe that makes a difference.

But its strange i always have been played GTA IV with the 2GB RAM i got at the moment. I just bought a beter CPU and things dont work anymore.

Atm i got DDR2-667 memory. Will it works if i buy 2GB DDR2-1200 memory? Or won't i notice any differece?

If no updates, will close thread and assume problem has been solved.
