I'm getting so much lag on all the servers and this has only started happening reccently...It's really hard to play with 300-400ms

Apparently It was a problem to do with the data-centre, but Its been a while since then, any idea when it will be resolved?

Does anyone know when this will be fixed?

You might want to PM Mostly Harmless on the forums, he handles the CSS servers. He should know what's going on or can figure out.

Not to the same extent :3

I noticed its mainly been affecting people in the US , where as European gamers such as myself and eurocracy play normally.

Then again Abdul , you are in the United Kingdom.... hhmmmmm.

Yeah, sometimes lag spikes arise on servers due to server strain or some random error, but it is quite nice when the USA players are complaining about lag when I myself am always at that ping and am like "What are you guys complaining about, welcome to my world."

Yeah, sometimes I complain about lag when my ping is like 68. xP But then I look at my Europals and see their ping between 130-300 and I feel bad. :\

But as for the server lag, I've noticed it as well. Probably nothing to worry about, and if it is... Mostly Harmless will handle it.

I haven't had a problem with CS:S nor the DOD:S servers that I have been playing on recently.

Europeans don't really get pings past 180 btw. Those would be further into the Pacific and Asia. For me, I probably clock an average ping of 210? (I live in New Zealand)

I'v been noticing spikes in the cod4 servers. though the ping didn't soar up, only the lag did.

Lag and high pings can come from a multitude of things.

Internet routes are usually one of the most common problems users face. If a core router, or any device along a network path fails, the carriers will usually reroute traffic. This also happens when maintenance is done on the network. It's not uncommon to see routes going across different parts of the country instead of going straight to the destination because of this reason.

For example, if you live on the east coast and play on an east coast server, you should be routed directly to the server. If traffic is being rerouted you may get routed to California and then back to the east coast to bypass the problem.

Another issue, which has been said already, could be resource conflicts. Mostly problems with a server that it's experiencing high CPU or memory usage, thus creating lag. Network usage is also a factor as a DDOS attack on a server can bring the network to it's knees, make the server inaccessible, and cause connection problems (again, lag).

Hardware failures can also cause problems - failing hard drives in a RAID array can cause a decrease in performance in certain circumstances. Bad memory can cause memory errors which can propogate into crashes. Overheating CPU's can get throttled to keep them from being overloaded (degrading system performance) or even shut down the server completely.

So, who knows what it really could be. Let the leadership figure it out and solve the problem :)
