ATI 5650 performs slightly better than a GT 420m.

i7 would be lovely, but if you can't get one for your budget, don't fret, it won't be a huge difference. The i5 will still give you 2 core with 4 threads. I doubt you will fully utilize a quad core anyway, it won't be a huge factor in gaming and the higher clock speed helps more. You would only really need it for like video editing etc...

m11x still wins in pure gaming :P
 
I would rather have the DV6 for gaming.

Bigger screen, better kb, more GPU power, CPU that isnt anemic

Well, you don't really need to get a blu-ray drive considering the resolution isn't even 1920x1080 so blu-ray won't be displayed to its full glory. It's definitely a great deal you got there with the i5 and 5730 being better than the HP etc...I would only say get an external blu-ray drive if you plan on hooking the laptop up to a big screen t.v that has a 1920x1080 resolution or 1080p

Laptop looks great though, the new XPS line has some of the best speakers for laptops if not the best and the design isn't too shabby.
 
PewPew, that's exactly what I plan on doing. Got a new TV, and I was planning on running blu rays via the laptop onto the TV.

Too bad I can't apply a $540 discount on the HP laptop.

Well, by the time I got home to buy it, the coupon code was used up, so I couldn't get the discount (nor the laptop). I honestly get lucky and find coupons online every once in a while, reflex. There's a couple websites that I use that usually post up coupons, but I'm sure you can find them if you just type in what kind of coupon you're looking for.

ye beyond his price limit, but i7 does supports switchable graphics as long as the laptop provides the option. If there is an integrade GPU and it is allowed by the laptop then it can switch to it.

EDIT: I remember looking at this one and thinking it was pretty nice, however, I'm not sure how the slim design would fare in gaming, you'll also miss out on blu-ray. (Not a big deal unless you have blu-ray movies).

Gateway NV series laptops usually come with Blu-Ray players in them, since being bought by Acer group they've been making decent products, just need to find the perfect NV model as they make far too many.

first one=craptacular intel IGP

second one= 5470 is barely better than intel IGP, if you get the 5650 option, it is fine

2nd option looks the best, don't think you would want to lug around a 17 incher, 16 inch is already pretty big but you have to get at least the ati 5650.

Nice, i personally don't really like the design of most windows laptops as they are plain ugly except for a couple, but its not bad for the price.

I'm honestly excited about this laptop. The last one I had broke back late 2008, and it was a IBM Thinkpad R50e (And yes, I just remembered the exact model number off the top of my head). Had that laptop for about 4 years before it broke. I was very close to buying a Dell Inspiron 15R that had the ATI Mobilitiy 550v on it, but the price would have been about the same, and I like the looks of the Lenovo Ideapads and Thinkpads a lot more than the Dell Inspirons, but that's a personal preference.

P.S. No Blu-ray but it does have a DVD drive, and with that video card, I figured it would be a fair trade.
 
Just received the laptop yesterday. And I'm sending it back today. Laptop was DOA and Lenovo's sales support pissed me off so I'm getting a full refund. Maybe HP or Dell will have something that won't be dead on delivery.
