Anybody follow this at all? Official that Russia will have it in 2018 and Qatar will have it in 2022. I followed the bids pretty closely and let me tell you...FIFA is corrupt. England, Australia, and the USA had exceptional bids but the first two went out in the first round! England only had 2 of 22 votes. Ok, Russia is somewhat understandable..but Qatar? Does that place even have grass????????

It's most definitely corrupt. Everyone knows FIFA has been corrupt from the very top to bottom for decades.
Anyway, it doesn't bother me too much that Russia got 2018 (England would have been a financially better choice and all round better for the sport), but the fact that Qatar got 2022 is outrageous. Their stadiums are indoors, which is just lame, plus nobody can drink alcohol due to Muslim beliefs. That'll stop pretty much everyone going.
Scored lowest on the technical score... check.
Highest risk factor... check.
Little government guarantees... check.
Corrupt law enforcement... check.
Bad transport... check.
Racism... check.
Can chuck a load of money at FIFA... cheque.

Not just the issues that Tension posted about Qatar, but also, it's actually too hot to play football in Qatar, so they have to put in air conditioning. Why not just choose England in the first place - we don't need air conditioning!
Okay for all of you who are hating against Qatar. I'm from Qatar myself. Qatar is the most wealthiest country in the world. We've got 11 years to develop our country before the World Cup. So just chill out about it. For those whore are complaining about Alcohol not being able to be drunk. For your information, they'll be changing some of the law rules. Qatar will not be like it is today in 11 years.

I know Qatar is wealthy, that's how they got the bid. It's all cash.

Regardless, I don't think the experience will be the quite the same as if it had been in England.

I think it's interesting that they award it to Qatar. They have vast amounts of space/infrastructure potential for it.
Soccer/Football is supposed to be an international sport and by giving it to non-traditional Cup countries (Qatar), they're putting their money where their mouth is since giving it to the U.S. would be much more profitable.
The only concern I have with Qatar is how they would keep the temperature manageable for the players. They promised A/C for the players on the field (how they're doing it, nobody knows since soccer/football is an outdoor sport) and box suites, but what about the normal spectators?

Qatar getting it, I was like, WHAT!? They came from no where and took it for 2022. Even though that is long time from now. Russia on the other hand is alright, they do have the money, thanks to their new Democratic goverment since the fall of the wall. It will be interesting to see how Qatar will handle this. Any bets, anyone?

I'm actually curious not trying to be an ass..what is Qatar going to do if Israel qualifies for the WC? And what about Israel fans? If I'm not mistaken aren't Israelis not allowed in Qatar?
But you can't even use that argument for Qatar. Football/soccer in Qatar is more popular then it is in the US. If FIFA really wanted to expand soccer as a global game and give it to non-traditional footballing countries then the US would have been the place to go. This is all about the money for FIFA.
What really demonstrates the fact that FIFA is hella shady is the fact that England only got 2 of 22 votes when they probably put forth the best bid.
For a positive on Qatar, look at these bloody stadiums they are going to build. Must be nice to have all that $$$$.

International sporting events usually requires hosting countries to put aside political differences for the time of the event.
