You like taking pictures, eh? Want a better camera? Look at the Canon PowerShot line of products (Take a good look at the $250 PowerShot SX130 IS). They have point and shoot cameras that have the majority functionality of a DSLR without the cost. Makes it pretty easy to learn the ropes of professional photography without shelling out $2000-$3000 for a DSLR body and lenses like I stupidly did when I was starting out (and just making things more confusing for yourself). If you've got $500-$600 bucks grab a Nikon D40 (or D3000, both great cameras) and start learning.
A great majority of a good finalized photograph is the finishing touches in Photoshop or other editing software. Allows you to do the impossible in many ways. Get famileraized with the phoro retouching and mastering techniques of Photoshop (not just the publishing and illustrative capabilities).

The Canon Rebel (Canon 500D = Canon Rebel T1i) is a fantastic choice as well! They are perfect for an intro DSLR! Fisheyes are not too bad either (Decent one [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Opteka-Professional-Fisheye-Digital-Camera/dp/B001K5R38Q/ref=sr_1_11?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1291398176&sr=1-11"]here[/ame] for just $50)

I only said it because of the quality of the images, not because of what he was taking pictures of. The flame one for example would be pretty nice if the focus wasn't all wrong, and the reflection in the mirror sort of kills it a bit.
Pick up a cheap-ish SLR camera, you don't need anything too fancy to start off with, and just take snaps of whatever pleases the eye.

Yeah, it is. I have a Canon Powershot SX200 which is a pretty decent point and shoot but it's not easy to get a great shot with it. It's possible, but it's pretty difficult and can take a while.
Well, i'll just do it in my spare time, I'm doing it at GCSE level atm, i was going to do it at A level but decided not too. I just do it for fun really
i dont mean to be a party pooper or ruin ur parade, but before u buy any sort of different camera such as Rebel t1i or nikon 40D, learn the rules of photography(such as rule of 3rd.) they will really help u improve ur photos.
however i do sound like a hypocrite, cuz i started out with Olympus e-volt 300, which was 800$ at the time, but i was pretty stubborn and didnt wanna give up on photos, i started with point-and-shoot pics too. but i knew alot of photoshop back then so it made it easier for me.
so if u wanna go far with photography u gotta learn PS, and u have to have really good self criticism. cuz otherwise u will be like the rest of ppl, who just "Uh a CAT!" *points at a cat and take a pic* and says "oh thats a goood photo, ima go post it!"

Nope i understand fully what you mean, I know these pictures are bad, my camera is pretty crappy, it's a Nikon P90. I do know how to use photoshop to re-enhance photo's, but I personally like to keep them natural, you know? I'm not planning to take this up as a career. I just do it in a spare time out of sheer boredness
