Hey guys, Im not that techy, but when I try to plug in a usb headset, flip camera, anything usblike, it dosnt connect right. I talked to my dad and he said something about the usb was to old or somewhat. He built this computer before what the 'USB update of somewhat" can you please tell me what this is?

If the newer devices you are trying to connect are USB 2.0 or newer, and your ports are USB 1.0 then they may not work.

USB 2.0 is fully backward compatible

I really have no idea why that is happening to you though.

It is possible that they are broken.

Hes right

This is what my dad was talking about, How can you upgrade this? How much does it cost to uprgrade to 2.0 or newer?

Well, as reflex said USB 1.0 ports should be forward compatible with 2.0 devices, however some devices may only work with 2.0, so I would make sure your ports work first. To fix your problem you need to replace your USB ports, depending on your computer you may have to replace your whole motherboard.

Plug in the device, go to control panel->device manager to USB controller and find your item right-click update, try that out.

(I'm a tad wasted so if anyone wants to make better directions on that go for it)

dosnt do

really dosnt do anything:( when I plug in my usb WoW headset, it dosnt turn on:(
and, the cords are perfectly fine, no bite marks, or anything!

Did you check if it is recognized in device manager? Is this a laptop or desktop? If the answer is desktop try using different ports, (like if you are using the front ports, try the back ports that go directly into the motherboard). If that still doesn't work then the ports are most likely broken.

To get to device manager, Click start (or the windows logo on the bottom left), ==> right click "my computer" ==> click properties ==> click the "hardware" tab ==> then click device manager, and look for the usb ports, see if a device is recognized.

-Oprah.

p.s. those instructions might be off a little as I haven't used a PC in a while.

Windows Key + Pause/break key, then device manager should be like 1-2 clicks away (depending on xp/vista/7).

well

Well I do have a desktop, but all my parts our on the back of my tower, Ill try diffrent ports and the device manager. Probably, most likly the ports are broken:(
