Hey guys, I am going to get my xbox out once again, and I want a Monitor for christmas. I want to use the monitor for my xbox 360, so I watched a video, and it looked like you need to buy things that don't come with the xbox. I was wondering if this is true or not, if it is true, please give me the list of supplies i will prob need

Or you can get a normal monitor, and a VGA to HDMI adapter, which will be cheaper, and easier to find. Also if this is for only use with the Xbox 360 (not a computer) it will be cheaper to get an HDTV.

Most new/good monitors have HDMI. And an HDMI cable will run you like $11.

To add to what the others said...

you will also need either: a monitor that has built-in speakers, a stereo that you can run your xbox audio through, or headphones.

I have mine hooked up through VGA, microsoft sells a VGA cable for the xbox 360 so you can hook it up to monitors.

But yea, if you going to be buying a new monitor, it will most likely have HDMI on it and if you don't have like the first xbox 360 that ever came out, you should have HDMI on the xbox 360 also.

As for sound, the VGA cable microsoft sells came with a RCA to 3.5mm adapter or basically the audio to 3.5mm adapter. The red/white audio go into this adapter. I then bought a female (I think its called this) 3.5mm to 3.5mm adapter so i could then plug my headphones or any speaker setup i wanted. Basically the adapter is the male 3.5mm jack or the plug (like a headphone) and the adapter i bought is a female connector (like on your ipod) and its 3.5mm to 3.5mm so i connect the xbox audio into this female adapter then i connect my steelseries headphones into this.

But, if your just gonna use the monitor speakers, you don't need the extra adapter i bought, i just wanted to be able to use my gaming headset.

Does the HDMI cable Comes Seperate from the xbox case? Can You get It at walmart, or a local store? How much?

Here ya go buddy, you might need this if your like me

[ame]http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Audio-Dongle-Adapter-Cable/dp/B002WIG4LW[/ame]

and

[ame]http://www.amazon.com/Stereo-Headphone-Jack-3-5MM-Female/dp/B000A88L9E[/ame]

These are for using external speakers if you dont get one with audio an audio output or built in speakers

my monitors have two external speakers but they arent something you wanna game with so i imagine you will want to use external speakers

I highly suggest buying an hdmi cable, or any other cable, online.

The price difference is staggering.

Random - I use the VGA cable with the audio in for my monitor (has built in speakers), but with the audio in on the vga you could also hook it up to the input of other speakers/headphones.

still deciding:(

I might or might not get the hdmi cable, Its up to my dads decision:(

doesn't really matter considering Xbox 360 doesn't even play games up to 1080p. Games for xbox only go up to 720p. You need blu-ray to fully utilize 1080p so PS3 is pretty much the only one right now and has been.

You know, I never really thought about that. I'm crushed now. Wish I could play AC4/For Answer on 1080p :(.

Incorrect. There are several games that natively play at 1080p (FIFA Street 3, Sacred 2: Fallen Angel, Virtua Tennis 3, etc.) on the 360. Sadly, none of the games that we actually care about are native 1080p and the rest rest are 720p, or upscaled.

However, ALL GAMES can be/are upscaled to 1080p, their native resolution may not be, but your statement that the 360 cannot play games at 1080p is incorrect.

Bluray discs only allow encoding in 1080p24 and not the higher quality 1080p50 or 1080p60, so your statement that Bluray is the only 'best way' to view 1080p programming is also incorrect.

However, if you consider that the gross majority of all televised 'High Definition' media in the united states is simply 720p60, 1080i60 or 1080p/24-30 no matter what you're doing you're most likely NOT getting 1080p.

Doesn't really matter how much effort you put into setting yourself up for supremo quality, you're just not really going to get true 1080p... :(

haha i wasn't being that literal but yes your correct. Games are upscaled but still, not as good as native.
