CCC- is it really necessary?

Do I really need to run CCC? Is it possible to keep it from autostarting at start up?

I'm thinking of using MSI afterburner to overclock my 5770, and since I don't use CCC for anything besides the occasional fan speed-up... idk. Yes I've tried overclocking with CCC and it's not that enjoyable for me, rather use a 3rd party program

Catalyst Control Center? Isn't that part of the drivers needed?

I know that you can remove it from the "startup list" if you go to "run" and type in msconfig. Then go to the "startup" tab. there you can select wich programs to run at startup. idk if CCC need to run. i have it turned off

CCC is not a necessary component, but its nice to have anyways.
