I can get a PC game for Christmas this year, and I can't decide which of these to get...any suggestions? pros and cons would help.

Thanks

One thing to keep in mind is that EVE has a monthly subscription fee (~$12-15/mo).

TF2 will keep you playing for years and you don't have to pay a subscription for it. I've been playing it since it's release in 2007 and I'm still not tired of it. Especially because Valve continually updates it with content that is free as well.

Basically what both Sharp_Shooter and Dominion said. Both are great games, EVE is more of an MMORPG, and TF2 is a multiplayer shooter. The most important difference in this case though is probably that EVE has a monthly subscription fee, so you have to keep paying for it.

I personally recommend TF2, I've been playing it for a very long time now and am still not bored, you get free updates and brand new content every couple months and there is no monthly subscription fee. Also, if you can, I would attempt to get the Orange Box instead of just TF2 (assuming you don't already have the Half Life 2 Series and Portal), due to the fact that TF2 on its own is 20$, and the Orange Box is $30, but it comes with Half Life 2, HL2: Episode 1, HL2: Episode 2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2!

Anyway, whatever you decide I hope to be seeing you on the servers!

I would recommend you TF2 . The game is still enormously played, still updated and still has still so much potential . Also with all the games in the orange box you would esily be able to get Insurgency, PVKII , Firearms: Source , and many more!

But EVE is still awesome but too expensive I NEED $$$$

I would choose tf2 because:
TF2: Has better gameplay, and i personaly think its more fun.
EVE: Has a monthly payment, tf2 has been around longer and is just a better choice.
Hope this helps you out. Have a good Christmas!

Just get both, easy solution.

pros for TF2 - Fun, and unique gameplay (from what it looks like) cons - idk

pros for EVE - huge MMO, fun, fast paced at times, and in space! - cons steep learning curve, want to make tons of cash? or ISK as its called, you better like mining. Like... A lot.

ok, I read somewhere that you can pay for the eve subscription with ISK. I that true, and how much time does that earn?

EVE has been out for a looooooooong time, even before WoW came out.

But getting back to the subject, you gotta look at both games. For EVE, as with an MMO, to get anywhere, you pretty much have to invest a lot of time into it, however there are a ton of people out there. But there's that dreaded learning curve EVE is famous for. I myself couldn't get past it. At least with TF2, you can pop on a server, kill a few people until you feel satisfied, and then jump off, and out of all FPS games, it's probably the easiest to pick up, but it takes a while for you to master it.

It's tough to compare and contrast the two because they are two entirely different genres, but pretty much everyone here nailed it. Oh, and TF2 has hats. Nuff said.

Fact: EVE has been around since 2003 :P.

Now, I own and actively play both games. I have played TF2 since August 2009 and EVE since Feb 2010. I have more or less the same hours put on each game (Nearly 1000 hours). Both are awesome games, and comparing them is quite hard since they're not the same genre, and they're oriented to different publics.
TF2 Is a great, extremely fun multiplayer shooter. You'll never get tired of it with the new content and the lols going around. Definitely worth getting.
EVE is a space simulator-somewhat-mmorpg style that offers a superior game experience, with a lot more than just laughs. You can get to be pretty big in EVE, if you know the ways, and some of this ways are just like real life. It's a slower paced games, and requires lots and lots of patience. Believe me, sometimes doing an operation in EVE can take up a whole night, and you can hardly quit in the middle of it.
Like everyone else mentioned, EVE has a monthly fee, that can be covered with ISK (In game currency). You either get a 14 day or 21 day trial. Is it possible to get such amount of ISK in 14/21 days? Yes it is. It's really hard, but not impossible. Other than that, eGO can offer training plans to get to making that much ISK in a month or two.

Notice I put a lot mor emphasis on EVE, and that's just because it's a deeper game.
Whatever you pick, I'll see you there!

hmmm....well, i may end up getting TF2 mainly because i'm not big into mmo's because i don't have the patience to do that sort of thing. so if steam offers a discount for TF2, i will get it

It's possible to play for the Eve subscription with ISK, but you need BIG help in the beginning to do it. You need around 300mil ISK every month to pay for your subscription so you better be prepared to work hard in order to make that scale of money.
EVE is 10x more fun than TF2 when you beat the learning curve, TBH, but you will hit some sad moments with it (losing your first Battleship, etc.). If you just want a game that you can go at a pace which allows you to have more of a real life, go with TF2.
More or less, it's your choice, take a look at which one you want to do.

EVE hands down. Though pay with real money for the first 3 months, after that you're set for isk payment and never have to spend real money on eve again (I end up just spending my isk on ships and shinies though).

well, i don't have a job, so i can't make the payments. so i guess it's tf2 for me.
