Battle Dex is a turned based strategy game with the addition of special cards to make things a little more interesting. Your objective is to either destroy your opponents base or capture control points. Ideally you will want to go for the control points because at the end of each turn, you will be given one "Victory Point" for each control point that you've captured. After you acquire a predetermined amount of victory points, you will win the game. There are also points known as "Resources" that will give you money once you capture them. Although at the end of each turn you are provided a small amount of cash to stay in the game, units can be pretty pricey so capturing resources will give you a better fighting chance.
Not exactly an RTS
The reason this is different from an RTS is that the game operates on a turn by turn basis. You will be provided a little over a minute to make all your moves, submit them, then watch as your units move about.
Free-to-Play but its Challenging
Although this game does not cost you anything to play, you are severely limited starting off in what you can do. You have the ability to purchase, card packs and "Pro Points" which you use to unlock Multiplayer missions and enter Tournaments. You are given a few cards starting out, but you will have to complete single player and free multiplayer missions if you want more cards.
Units
These are what you buy to control the battlefield. Each unit has its own set of strengths and weaknesses. For example, Helicopters can cause a lot of damage to ground forces, but can not fire at other aerial vehicles. There are eight units which you can purchase: Infantry, Heli, Artillery, Fighter, Anti-Aircraft, Light Tank, Heavy Tank, and Recon.
The "Card" System
As of now, there are 100+ cards you can use in battle. However, you can only choose thirteen to take with you into a match. Use them to make your strategy tougher to beat, therefore you should not base your strategy off your cards. The cards are then sorted into ten different categories: Movement, Special, Damage/Armor, Vision/Range, Heroes, Heal, Discount Units, Buffed Units, Super Buffs, Debuffs, Mercenaries.
Game-types
What is great about this game is that it comes with Single-player, Multiplayer, and Tournament games. The single-player missions are what you will want to complete first since they introduce you to the game and can give you experience or card packs once you complete them. The missions can range from attacking multiple computer enemies or protecting a key military figure from an onslaught of attackers.
Multiplayer missions also provide you will experience, specific cards, card packs, and pro points. Finding a game in multiplayer can be a bit slow at times considering there are not many players, but there are a variety of missions that you and up to 6 partners will work together in order to beat tough computer opponents.
Right now many tournaments cost Pro Points and packs to play, however there are a few free tournaments. I've only done one and had to drop out in the first game, it was rough....
