Getting COD4 to Run?

I need some help here. I've installed COD4 and the patch 1.4. When I start it, I see the splash screen for a brief moment, then it goes away and the game doesn't start. I've been looking at Activision's site and they are useless as screen windows on a submarine. Any help is appreciated.

have you try it a few more times?
it happens to me a several time on DoD
my video driver is outdate (not really it's all because my video is pretty old...)
so try it a few more times
sometime it needs to restart...
 
I have installed it 6 times now . . . . the last 2, it finished the install, but won't start. I get the splash screen for a brief second, then it goes away and no game. I'm losing my patience.

i didn't mean to re-install it
but I meant to restart the game, or keep staarting the game?
yes, i agree with Geogre
or even with your video card software problem too
COD4 is pretty awsome, but it requries a high performance though

I do not have cod4 so bear with me, but are you launching the game from icon or from within steam?

Do you have the disk in the drive while you play? Many games have shoddy drm and instead of giving an error they just wont start without the disk.

Furthermore please post your computer specs.
 
I've tried restarting it several times with the same result. I just installed my video card, which is a GeForce 6600 (the minimum required for COD4) and used the latest driver from nVidia's web site. I have not installed any other hardware or software other than that.

My system specs are:
Athlon XP 3200
1 gb Corsair ram
4 HD, 2 running in RAID 0 (a total of 250 gb)
Asus A7N8X deluxe mobo
GeForce 6600

I appreciate you guys helping me on this. I want sooooo bad to come play! Like I said, I'm frustrated with Activision's site. They are little, if any help at all.

hey sixxgun go 2 edgegamers.net and ask in the cod4 general discusion room i had problems with cod4 and they helped me solve my problems and while youre add it try downloading the latest patches there,s out there u canf find them all on filefront.com
 
I know this is more of bragging but CoD4 works perfectly on my computer, but I'd assume it's the hardware then because minimum specs aren't always "minimum" the recommended specs is usually what I'd shoot for if they give a recommended
 
XP vista? i knwo with dod and cs the steam powered forums have tons of threads about this issue happeneing i bet its the same solution for cod4
