New digital camera

My daughter uses a Nikon D80 (after MULTIPLE other digital cameras) - and she doesn't leave the house without it....
 
I have the Canon PowerShot A620 and love it. Lots of features to play around with. You probably won't be disappointed with most any PowerShot cameras.
 
You need to tell us how much of a photogeek you are since that always determins the camera you want. Some people want to point and shoot and have it come out nice, while others want to play arround with fstop manully and such.

The powershot line is spectacular however there are some big differences in the line as well. I literally JUST bought the powershot sd1000 not even 24 hours ago, still waiting for newegg to ship it.

In my case, I wanted quality, easy of use, and slim design. To be honest I really wanted a camera that operated off of AA bateries instead of proprietary ones, however, in my case, the rest of the camera made up for that fact.

Note that some of the higher end camers will not take standard SD memory cards but rather take more expensive SD pro type memory and others. Make sure you find out what kind of battery it takes so you can buy replacements if you want - the memory, and try to figure out if you need to take poster size immages using complete manual exposier time and varying fstop or if you can save like $200 but not carring about that stuff.

I found cnet to be extraordinarily helpfull and usefull in their camera reviews - and the cyber shot hold i think 4 of the top 5 ratings for the smaller size cameras. Some of the models such as the a710 and the a720 (i think those are the numbers) are the same camera with 99% the same features but the newer one uses a different chipset that allows for better baterylife and face regognition.

In all, you wont be disapointed in that camera i dont think but it may be possible to spend less if you dont need the features.
 
Yea the canon sd800 series are very good camera.....coming from someone who works at Best Buy :P They are actually better than the sd1000 previously mentioned. Which doesn't make much since because higher model# usually means better product. Anyways Canon is probably the best all around brand of camera. But if u get it at best buy, I'd probly get the accid. dmg warranty cuz people drop those things all the time.
 
Yeah, sorry if i made it sound as if the sd1000 was better because it is not. The sd1000 which I bought is basically the same camera but with no manual exposier, no manual focus or manual fstop and missing some other features that I just dont need. All I really wanted was a sturdy camera for pointing an shooting.

I might be technical, and I might even know what fstop is, but dont asume that i know how to set it. I'm a camera idiot in that sence, just happen to be great with technology.

I had a $800 digital camera in 2001 / 2002 when 3.1 was beyond the best at the time for cameras. I had 3 light filtering lenses, came with a remote and mini tripod and everything. It took beautiful pictures and allowed me to manual adjust anything I wanted to.

I hate the damn thing. The onyl thing it is good for is taking pictures that you set manually. It takes decent pictures with the flash on, however, if you turn the flash off - it doesnt adjust anything so the pictures are underexposed and always blury. What is the point of owning a camera if i cant pick it up and take a picture when I see somehting i want to snapshop? The answer: Nothing, unless all your pictures are staged or if you have time everytime to play with the settings and since i'm no pro or amateur photographer its useless to me.

Unfortubately, even though it was $800 plus $200 in accessories, its only 3.1 MP so nobody today would even want it if i was to sell it for cheap. I was going to bring it to a pawn shop, but I lost the software CD which had the cd key written on it with marker. And yes, it happens to be one of the cameras that is NOT recognized by windows without the software (dumb). I will be searching for that softwarebut i doubt i will find it snice we moved like 3 times since I got it as an xmass prsent.

Now I got myself a better camera and have nothing to do with my old one.

Just like my last computer, its sitting in my room doing nothing.
 
I actually bought the G9 today. I am happy with is so far. Ill give some input after about a week of use.

So far im loving the g9. My wife bought the 870is. She hasnt had any problems yet. The picture quality isnt what the g9 is but its a great choice if you dont want to drop it off to much for a camera.
