Actually, from what I've been reading, It's likely that episode 3 was scratched and halted, and a full out Half-Life 3 will be the likely outcome, utilizing a new source engine, probably called source2.

Think about it. Why would they end the HL series with another 4 hour episode? If they wanted to do that then they would have released it already, seeing as EP1 and 2 were barely released within a year of each other. Obviously a lot more thought has to go into this.

There was some rumors about a new DoD floating around 1 year or so ago.. Nothing big, I just think it was wishing and hear-say. But yer DoD 3.0 would be nice, but it probably ain't gonna happen unless it's a mod from someone.

DoD have been dropped by Valve (at least for the next couple of year) you can clearly see that in the updates and the amount of support it gets, they are gonna run Portal 2/TF2/CSS since that'll make 'em the most money.
