I just bought BFBC2 aaaand my computer can't run it, go figure. It's about 5 years old so I'm not too surprised. My current graphics card is a GeForce 6150 LE, which can't run BCBC2, but I have a Radeon 9550 sitting around in my old CPU, so idk if that will run the game. I'm pretty much only looking for a 1GB memory upgrade, and I'm also not looking to spend that much on a graphics card, I'm just looking to get one that will run BFBC2 and improve FPS. I have no idea about all of this tech stuff, so any advice would help. Thanks!

talked to my friend who works on comps, and got a few things in mind.
2 x 1GB 240-pin DDR PC2 4200 memory unit
EVGA GeForce GT 240 graphics card
checked these with my specs and they would both work out, do they seem like decent options?

They will work, but for BC2, I think you may be disappointed. In order to get BC2 to run well, you're going to need a more powerful CPU. To get 30 FPS constantly, you need a nice Core 2 Duo dual core (around 3Ghz.) To get 60 FPS constantly, you need a quad core. Most of the time, a good video card and more memory will fix your problems. BC2, however, loves quad core CPU's, and that dual core is pretty dated at this point.
I don't think 2GB of DDR is enough either. And if that's regular DDR, that's going to be really expensive.
Honestly, you need to do a complete rebuild, and you need to spend at least $700 on it to get decent performance.

If your looking to spend money on a desktop to play BFBC2 then your going to need at least $500.
Some people find it's easier and quicker (sometimes cheaper) to buy manufactured desktops with an onboard graphics card but with a powerful CPU (I5's etc) then later adding a graphics card along with it. This option is easier for people who don't know how to build a PC or just can not be bothered to go through all the building. Might work for you, but it's just a suggestion. This is what I do when I'm low on cash.

I've got a GT 240 in my computer currently, I can try running bc2 on it tomorrow morning and see if it'll even run. I'd recommend looking at a 5750, I know for a fact it'll run and be playable, I used one for a few months before jumping to a 460.
As for the new comp vs upgrade, if you upgrade, at least upgrade with parts that'll be useful getting you off the ground in a new build, again I'd say the 5750. Cheap, DX11 capable, and low power requirements(likely to work with the PSU you've got right now)

yeah that's pretty much it. i'm heading off to college soon, so i'm also looking at laptops that would be able to handle gaming. i'm starting to not see a point into trying to squeeze a little extra juice out of the desktop.

I've ran some tests with my computer and a friend's on this same situation before. Essentially all you really need is a fairly decent upgrade from what you are using. I've noticed that my amd athlon II x2 250 can run bc2 well, but has a few issues when things get hectic. I then tested a amd athlon II x3 425, the most basic of athlon tri cores, and I noticed all of my issues go away. It doesn't mean bc2 will be fool proof with a quad however. My friend uses a amd athlon II x4 925 quad core, and he finds there are issues. Not as often as my dual core, but it isn't perfect.
If you have the board for it, a cpu upgrade would help, alot. Memory as well. A 1gb upgrade should do you fine, unless you only had 1gb to start with. The minimum requirements for bc2 recommend 2gb, while I believe you need at least 2.5 (it'll give you more comfort room during the hectic moments, you don't want to have an fps drop in a battle).
To sum things up, if you have the money, go for an upgrade before thinking outright about a new build. Especially because you are heading off to college. You're going to need that money

yeah I wasn't planning on getting a new build, but i don't want to put money into a computer that I wont use for much longer. i guess i'll start looking around at laptops
