BF2 Help Needed!

Hey guys,

I just downloaded and started playing Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Often during multiplayer matches, the game will suddenly freeze with a loud monotonous buzzing noise issuing from my speakers. I can't do anything but restart the computer, no tabbing out or ctrl-alt-deleting the crap out of it.. I have a pretty new computer so this shouldn't be an issue, but I'm in desperate need of help! Here are my specs:

processor:
2.65 gigahertz Intel Core i7 950
32 kilobyte primary memory cache
32 kilobyte secondary memory cache
1024 kilobyte tertiary memory cache
64-bit ready
Multi-core (4 total)
Hyper-threaded (8 total)

memory:
4088 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory

motherboard:
Board: EVGA 131-GT-E767 Tylersburg
Bus Clock: 133 megahertz

graphics:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470

Any ideas?

The buzzing is the same thing that happened to me right before I got the BSOD. Try updating your video card drivers first, if that doesn't work you can try what I did. I switched out the 6 pin PCIe connectors on my video card, and it never happened again.
 
Seems like Nvidia's 470 & 480 cards are known to start problems in regards to BC2 specifically. Maybe that's what's going on.

Try reading a bit of that. All of what you'd be interested in is oh so conveniently in the OP. There seems to be a beta driver fix (posted in the main post at the bottom) but it's still a WIP.

gaming community members claim to have some up with semi-fixable driver repairs, but nothing is 100% guaranteed.


If not, this could actually be a sound card driver conflict. (I had the same problems a while ago with BF2 and source games, just to find out that loud noise is no random noise, it's your sound card acting up, Potentially)

Either way, read that through and see if any appeals to you enough to give it a shot. Their beta driver is certainly worth a go. (I'd recommend a clean install of the driver, if possible)
