Thoughts on the .50 cal?

So... I think that they should include in an update that the .50 cal sniper should be a one shot kill no matter where you hit the person.. now I know that a lot of people would say "OMG NO! that would make Recons SOOOO overpowered! OMGWTF1337HAX0RBBQ!!!" but seriously... it's a .50 cal round FFS.. I've seen what those do and it's not pretty.. It just seriously irks me when I put a .50 cal round square into someones chest and they don't go down..

Any thoughts on the subject???

Oh yea.. I've logged 21.4 hours on BFBC2 over the past 2.5 days xD I need a life bahaha... and I'm rank 10 or something like that and I have all the Recon gear HAHAHAHA.

Happy Hunting.

In hardcore it used to be before they nerf of all snipers. They updated the .50 cal a few months back so as long as you use it with Mag ammo (again, in HC) you'll kill them not matter what.

Ahhh, I haven't gotten the MAG ammo yet because i'm still newbie rank.. but i have the toys! haha

Thanks for the input and info!

Right, what Duality said. I'm pretty sure all snipers with magnum ammo are one hit kills in HC.

Anywho. .50 cal rocks. Takes some getting used to, but is really fun. Hint, if you hold down the mouse button after you shoot, you stay scoped, letting you see the bullet's trajectory and see if it nails him in the face... very satisfying.

It's basically the opposite of the SVU, which is my other favorite sniper. :P

I think it is fine as is since with the mag ammo it does 1 shot kill in HC and if it did that in normal, it would be the only weapon used which would degrade gameplay. and yeah the SVU feels like an Engineer weapon not a sniper rifle but it is really fun to use.

I definantly agree with this. When you get hit with a .50 cal anything, you will either be EXTREMELY immobilized or just dead on the spot. There is no reason why you should still be able to walk it off and shoot your opponent, no matter where you get hit.

When I was using the 2 M95s I used them with the 4x Scope as a quick scope/shotgun Sniper rifle. And always used em with Mag Ammo. Most of my Kills were in non-Hardcore (about 80%)

M95 Sniper
Time Used: 17h 41m 06s
Kills: 898
Headshots:152
Shots Fired: 4,333
Shots Hit: 2,062
Accuracy: 47.59%

M95 Sniper SPECACT
Time Used: 14h 23m 43s
Kills: 975
Headshots: 149
Shots Fired: 3,868
Shots Hit: 2,190
Accuracy: 56.62%

Yea, what Mayhem said.. haha. Even if you were to get hit in the foot with a .50 cal round.. first of all your foot would be gone. Not blown off, or blown to pieces.. it would literally be 'gone'. Secondly, your entire leg would most likely either be mangled beyond repair or recognition, or it would be blow off from the force of the blast. It's not a question of trying to keep the classes balanced, it's more like I'm trying to say "They put that weapon in there, now it needs to do the damage it would in real life."

I guess the point i've been trying to make, is that the way they have the sniper rifle now, it would be like them having tanks in the game, but the tanks main gun couldn't even blast a hole in a building, yet your grenades, and 40mm RGL can... kinda stupid, right?

And pensive, if it were 1 shot kill I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be the only SR used. It is quite a slow weapon and SRs like the GOL which are slightly less powerful yet faster to reload and re-chamber would be a good alt. The SVU would also be used because I like to use it on maps that have limited sniping spots.

I need to play with some of you guys haha. I'm a crazy recon player, yea, it's nice to sit back and snipe every now and then, but there have been MANY times where the pistol and knife have been my BFF's xD

Yet how many people have you seen that can run around and shoot a .50 cal from the hip, or even shoulder? Especially while standing.

.50 cals are set up and used prone (aside from mounted MGs)

i used the gol on xbox all the time, now i got it for pc i loved it till i used the m95, its now my favorite. so fun picking kids from 300 some meters, get good with headshots no need for mag ammo :p

Personally I agree they need to re look and maybe revamp some of the weapons in BC2 and Vietnam version.

50 cal, I use it in-Game and I fired that weapon in real life. Game version BS anyone know if you shoot a person center mask with a 50 cal its like cutting potatoes in half. Any place you hit the person it will destroys body parts.

Like MK19 which is my favorite weapon of all http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mk_19_grenade_launcher

50 cal in the game is a joke in my opinion, but it is just a game after all.

I agree with the 1-hit-kill problem. It definitely should be 1 hit kill. A .50 cal bullet has enough kinetic energy behind it to rip your face off if it goes a few inches next to your head, and enough energy to separate the torso from the lower body from a stomach shot.

I was actually going to mention to make it one-hit kill, except must be fired prone.. but you can't go prone haha. But I think that if they changed it, increase the recoil.

(I have seen people fire it while sitting and standing though.. and this specific rifle is designed to absorb most of the recoil.)

My thoughts exactly haha.

I've seen footage where they set up 20 or so panes of glass angles in the same direction (45*) and they fired a .50 cal about a foot and a half or so away from the glass, and it all happened very quickly, but right as the bullet traveled past the glass, it virtually vaporized it.

(below it kinda how it was, the dashes are the bullet's trajectory and the slashes were the window except angled towards the line a little more.)

I love my gunmetal m95. And I play HC so with magnum ammo I never shoot twice.

I've seen the bottom one. The top one made me laugh because I looked at it and he wasn't correct in his shooting position... then I thought "It's the army... duh.. haha".

And what's hilarious about the bottom one is that it was an Anti-Personnel round round and it STILL sailed through 5 sheets xD

I have made this argument before, but look: this is a game concerned with fun first. Realism isn't even second. It's something like 7th. So it doesn't make a lot of sense to criticize BC2 for not being realistic... it's like criticizing a car for being a car and not a truck.

This is a game where no one can lie prone. This is a game where paddles magically revive people who have taken shotguns to the face and AT rockets to the chest. This is a game where special flags are raised by invisible hands for points. This is a game where magical boxes dispense ammunition through thin air, and other magical boxes heal gunshot wounds good as new from 2 feet away.

The game has succeeded if you are having fun. :P
