[Sexy Beast]

So yeah...2010. Not a good year for movies. Well actually is was a damn terrible year for films. Well it could a have been a good year and I just didn't see any of the good movies, that actually plausible. I didn't see The Fighter or The Ghost Writer and my DVD copy of The Town is sitting on my nightstand unwatched and pretty much ignored. So there will on be six, that's right six entries in this list. Yeah, it's a little sad...but whatever.

Inception

So Inception, if you read my review of this movie then you're probably questioning why it's on the list. The simple reason is, the film is entertaining and while it wasn't as smart or imaginative as I would have preferred...it still was pretty smart for a summer action film. Nolan crafted a great thriller and one of the best films of the year.

Black Swan

The Black Swan is a strange as hell amalgamation of Tchaikovsky and Jacob's Ladder. If you've seen Jacob's Ladder then you know that this film is a hallucinatory thriller with some horror thrown in for good measure. It's a brilliantly realized tale that doesn't take itself to serious and knows exactly what it is. It's Portman's performance that really puts this film on the list, she really does a great job.

127 Hours

127 Hours is one of the best inspirational films that I've seen in a while. It's not manipulative and doesn't carry some half-a**ed message about caring or diversity. It's about a guy whose trapped under a boulder with nothing to do but try to survive and reflect on his past mistakes. The director Danny Boyle, of 28 Days Later and Slumdog Millionaire fame, does a spectacular job at turn what should have been a dull story into a wholly entertaining film and one that doesn't stop moving. Though the real star is James Franco, who put's in a stellar performance in what is essentially a one man show.

True Grit

This is the first great American western to come out in the last three years, 2007 was a good year with 3:10 to Yuma and the The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. Oh, and if Carmine is reading this I am afraid to say that I still haven't seen 3:10 to Yuma. This is also the first time that the Coen Brothers have done a straight up genre film. Usually their all over the place genre wise or deconstruction them, but here we have none of that. All we have is a great Western, with great performances from the whole cast. It's Hailee Steinfeld though who steals the show, she manages to out act everyone else in the film...a film that has two academy award winners.

Oh, and if Carmine is reading this I am afraid to say that I still haven't seen 3:10 to Yuma.

Exit Through the Gift Shop

Banksy is one of the most illusive artist on the planet and for good reason, his art is street art which is obviously illegal...in most countries. So it's seems a little odd for the whose identity know one knows to make a Documentary. I won't question why he did it, but I'm glad the man went ahead and made this movie. I plunges you directly into the world of street art as seen through the eyes of a French man who may be mentally unstable. It's a weird tale to say the least and one that might even be a hoax. Still it's one of the most well put together documentaries that I've seen in a while and one of the best I've ever come across.

The Social Network

I know...I know, The Social Network. Why in the hell did I have to choose The Social Network as my number one movie? Well it's the best I saw this year, that's right folks, David Fincher crafted the best film of the year. Sure I was a little disappointed in how it turned out, but he along with script writer Aaron Sorkin managed to turn a movie about the creation Facebook into an all around excellent film. Sure it embellishes the facts...a lot, but that's all for the better. The film is a perfect storm of talent from acting to direction to script writing to the musical score.

Yeah, It's a mediocre list and one where I missed a lot of movies. So that's where you guys come in, tell me what I got wrong and list off your favorites of this year.

I think any Pixar/Dreamworks movies are good, and that's why Despicable Me, and Toy Story 3 were some of my favorite movies of the year. Just the artwork of the movie alone makes it good enough to see, but although both movies may look like they're for children, they also have some things in them for adults too.

One of my favorite films of the year would have to be 4 Lions... One of the hidden gems from this year.

Hell even though I thought it was a good movie but not great. I would throw Kickass up in my top 10.

Toy Story 3
The Town

Other than that you are right this year didnt bring about too many super blockbusters. Scott Pilgrim was fun and the only one Id put on my list but probably not top 10 overall niche audience / my love of graphic novel fannism.

I would have to say that Karate Kid this year was pretty epic.The way he owns that kid at the end kicking him in the face slow-mo.

prob is theres nothin in the movie bout him kickin the kid where the sun dont shine. thats 1 of the reasons i didnt see that film. also the form that jackie chan taught the kid is kung fu (since jackie chan is a kung fu master, not karate) & thats the biggest reason. most people cant tell the difference, & thats their hindsight (i believe thats the correct term).

also to sexy, i did go see true grit w/ my dad & my sis' bf. u were def right on w/ that movie. i was very impressed w/ hailey's performance in the movie. i am disappointed that it only got 2 academy awards.

one more thing, i still need to see inception (hey dont gripe me out on that).

Oh...No True Grit hasn't gotten any Academy Awards. I don't think the nominations have even been announced for the year. I was stating that Hailee Steinfeld out acted Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon, both of who have Oscars.

Like I said before. I haven't seen Toy Story 3, it was one of those films that I never really got around to.
