Battlefield 3: Update

Apparently after reading some articles it looks like the upcoming Battlefield 3 game will have limitations and strict hardware requirements. One thing being discussed is that BF3 will not support Windows XP.

Makes sense, since xp does not support dx10 and it's about time for gaming developers to phase out dx9 ;-)

xp has been out for a long time, im not saying xp is bad but it is time to move on, technology is advancing and xp isnt, there cutting updates and such to xp to where theres gonna be no point to using it unless ur an older gamer and dont play newer games.

It won't kill PC gaming, it hasn't killed consoles yet. Xbox doesn't support the new Xbox 360 games. Same deal with PC.

I have no issues ...i think most gamers have have dx 10 or 11 card..as for xp its old anyones hwo bought a pc in like the past 4 years have vista or 7....hopefully 7 (unless of course u manually put xp on ur pc)

im some ways im happy because dx9 kind holds the rest of us back that shelled out the money for the better cards because alot of games kept dx9 format to support more people

I have been using Win 7-64bit for awhile and I love it :thumbup:

This is a very stable system I feel, :thumbup1: even so I change all my PC over Win 7 :thumbup:

It is not an aim at destroying the XP OS but rather at getting rid of dx9 and since the release od dx10, Microsoft stated that dx10 would in no way be supported on windows xp, however if in fact Microsoft would develop dx10 to work on xp then there would be no problem and xp would still be good to go.

The problem with that would be that it would hinder the sales and profits of the most wealthy company in the USA and that is why it is the way it is.

It isn't so much a Dice decision but rater a Microsoft decision, All Dice is doing is trying to make the best game they can and by leaving a game compatible with an older code series such as dx9 hinders their ability to use more advanced programming.

This also requires the game to be reworked for dx9, dx10, and dx11, and the real problem there is that 10 and 11 are very similar and no big deal to alter to play well with one another where as dx9 takes alot more work resulting in slower development and more bugs to be worked out.

For those that need to upgrade please skip Vista as it is a failure and move along to Win7 where IMHO Is the best current option.

I do believe xp pro is the best OS i have ever used and I am often frustrated beyond belief with Win7 but there isn't much of a choice just hope that Microsoft fixes Win7 to be as good as it should be and move on!

Maybe their next os will be better but I doubt it as they continue to make pc's more "user friendly" they in fact make them more automated and less "tech friendly" which frustrates the heck out of me!

There is a simplicity in being able to have greater control over your environment! Anyway I am just rambling on now and getting off topic so just heed the advice and move on with the times this isn't gonna stop with Dice, it is a stepping stone to the future.

According to Microsoft, 52% of all computers in the world run on XP... that's a huge computer security risk, as most malware programmers will be creating malware that will at least be designed to work with XP if not exclusively. I think that computer companies (developers, manufacturers, etc) will start to push for the switch to 7 or Vista, even if only for the increase in security.

On topic though. I'll probably be buying BF3, as the only Battlefield games I've played is BC2 and Nam, I'll be wanting to taste the rest of the series.

It worked in every other BF game besides BC... I pretty sure it will still work. Only problem I see would that they might have to add building that were indestructible... Like some of the buildings in BC2.

I've been expecting this for a while now. DX 10 and 11 aren't supported by XP and sooner or later games will have to be more focused on them. XP isn't bad, but it's a almost a decade old and it's showing it's age.
