How is this PSU?

Without knowing much about how you run your rig, how come you need a thousand watts? It looks to me like the rig you have should be fine with a 700-750w PSU even if you're doing some serious overclocking, unless there's something I'm missing here? D:

Just overkill and cuz i picked up this 1000w PSU for like $70 after rebate. And just to future proof a bit

If I were in your shoes, I would get a very high-quality modular power supply somewhere between 700 and 800 watts now and then when you need to upgrade, it's not only easy to remove, but you didn't have to replace the PSU a couple of times between now and whenever your system is really gonna be roaring for a 1000-watt PSU. By the time you actually need that much horsepower, I think it would be at a point in time where high-quality 1000w power supplies are probably going to be the price of what 700/750w PSUs are going for now (if that).

I know that my SeaSonic X650 Gold is amazing. It's gold-certified, modular and SLI-ready, and can connect up to four PCI-Express slots. TBH even if you wanted to future proof for... I dunno, three-way SLI 460s, 750W should do, no? It just so happens that SeaSonic has a gold-certified, MODULAR 750w PSU on NewEgg on sale right now.

Of course it's your PC, so go overkill if you want! These are just my recommendations.

Whoa whoa whoa.
OEM sleeved cables suck. But custom sleeved cables are the best thing ever. Flat cables are annoying.

What's your reasoning behind that statement?

The all-black flat PSU cables from Corsair are only slightly larger than SATA cables. How is that annoying? :confused1:

To each their own, but I wub my flat cables. They're much easier to route/hide than sleeved ones.

Flat cabling is fine, but Corsair is a little stupid and only did that on certain cables. So anything that has flat cabling isn't done all the way. That's annoying.

I agree, although having the 24-pin Motherboard cable be flat would have been sorta stupid. The last thing I need is a new IDE cable in my system.

seasonic X750.

DO IT NOW!

why get 1000w of mediocrity (HX1000) when you can get 750W of the best (X750)?

That "1000-watts of mediocrity" is still one of the best PSU's on the market. That being said, Seasonic units are also some of the best as well.

Take your pick. You can't go wrong with either.

Personally, I would steer clear of brands that aren't very well known. This is the first time I've ever heard of Rocketfish.

Shoot for a Corsair or any other high quality, well-known brand. Corsair is your best bet for durability, quality, and performance all in one package.

If you really must have a 900w, here's a nice Corsair one (950w) for $150 if you can afford it:

If you don't need the 900W+, here's a great one that's 650W:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139005 - $90, throw in the $20 rebate and it knocks it down to $70.

Compared to what is availible now, the HX1000 is overpriced and underperforming.

This one is more expensive. (only 80-plus certified)

This one is more expensive. (80-plus BRONZE, $100 more)

This one is more expensive.
(OCZ isn't known for their high-end PSUs, crappy 3 year warranty)

This one is more expensive. (Why would anyone pay that much for a Sparkle PSU?)

This one is more expensive.
(Good, but still more expensive for identical specs, 3 year warranty)

This one looks like a rainbow. (and it's made by Xion... ew)

For comparison, the HX1000 has a 5 year warranty, and that by itself is worth a lot.

How did you come up with it under performing? Are you talking about efficiency? If so, that's a valid point (although it only loses by about 2-3%), but if you're talking about longevity, it can hang with, and in most cases surpass the best of them.

You're knocking something that is an incredibly fantastic product. I would purchase one of those in a heartbeat if I needed that much power.

Now, if you want to knock a power supply, try this one:

PC Power and Cooling T12W 1200W

That is the definition of "overpriced" if I ever saw it.

the sparkle is much better than the HX1000.

I would find the JG review, but i think you can manage.

NZXT hale90 1000w is annother example of a psu that is better than the hx1000, and in the same price range (hale90 is built on the same platform as the sparkle gold)

CM silent pro Gold- much better than HX1000, less price

CM silent pro 1000- same quality and performance as hx1000 way cheaper.

under performing, means that it is outclassed by other power supplys in its price range. It performs fine, but it is overpriced. if you can get one for like $170, then it is a good deal

and yes, PCP&C is overpriced as well

the CM silent pro 1000 is 80-PLUS BRONZE. It's not as good.

The NZXT PSU is white. If you don't have a white case, it's going to look butt ugly. (that's stretching. it looks to be solid, though)

However, the CM pro GOLD, looks to be solid. Good find. Not sure how much I trust CM PSU's, but it's worth investigating.

Fortunately, the options out there are numerous enough that you can find something that fits pretty easily. I prefer Corsair because of the outstanding experience I've had with their service and products. I will pay a few more bucks if I know that I'm going to have a better experience with that product, even if it dies on me.

<--- has white case... lol

the CMSP bronze is about on par. it has a little worse regulation, and the efficency isnt as high, but i would say saving $50 is worth it.

CM Silent Pro products are all very good, all of thier other lines are pretty bad though.

CM customer support is pretty good too.

CM has been pumping out some good quality PSU's for a while now. In the beginning they kinda sucked but now they're probably one of the top.

Enermax still are amazing yes? lol

Yea the HX1000w is overpriced and crap now. The tech in it is like 3 years old, hte HX850 and HX750 are newer and more efficient than it but of course less amps, wattage etc..

Isn't rosewill not that bad? Theyre a newegg brand but they just rebrand some high end psu's sometimes. I know ABS did it with enermax and charged less for it.

Also, OCZ is pretty good, they own PC P&C

I wouldn't touch Rosewill with a 10-foot pole, but that's just me.

I've had a bad experience with OCZ PSU's, so I don't recommend them to anyone. However, if you want to chance it, it's your call. PC P&C power supplies are great, but they're extremely overpriced for what you get. Since OCZ has influenced them somewhat, I don't think their quality today is as good as it used to be. Also, you can't get a modular PC P&C power supply. You'll have to get an OCZ one if you want modular.

Once again, my top picks for PSUs are Corsair, Seasonic, and Silverstone. XFX is good too, but they've had some "coil whine" issues with their products. Cooler Master is also improving in quality, but I still wouldn't buy from them (yet).

If you want to buy outside of that list, go ahead. It's your money. However, the high-end Corsair units have 7-year warranties on them. To me, knowing that I will have a PSU that will be good for 7 years is a huge incentive. It's expensive to buy a new high output PSU every 3-4 years.

Rosewill green series is fine, and the 80+ Gold ones are probably SFGoldenGreen like the NZXT and Sparkle (meaning it is pretty good).

The only thing that OCZ makes that is decent is the "Z" series, and the StealthXStream 400w. Everything else is mediocre.

Same goes for new PCP&C since they are built on the same OCZ platform.

PCP&C (pre-aquisition) are all good, but they lack in effincency, and are often expensive

The HX1000 isn't "crap", there are just better options. It is still a fine unit, and miles better than the Tuniq

XFX is the same as seasonic. Seasonic S12II to be precise.

Everything* that seasonic makes is exceptionally good. *The SS series is ok, but not great.

Enermax is flippin' amazing. Especially their 80+silver units. (Phobus is going to come in here and rant about their slow CS, but it is unlikely that you will ever encounter that.)

once again, you do not need 1000w

you need 750 at the MOST!

you could easily run a 650w unit, but like you said, you want some future expansion

CS? I am tired. What is that?

actually enermax is known to have some pretty bad customer service/RMA troubles.........but yea, their PSU's are still kick ass

w/e ima just stick with my tuniq and live with the load noise. Maybe i can try to RMA the GPU's to MSI complaining about a whining noise coming from them and some video flickering :P

I mean, i didn't have this problem running 3x4850's in tri-fire, why would it start now with 2xGTX 460's
