Dad wants hDTV

So my dad wants 1 of these. Here are the specs that I know that hes interested in:

32"
best possibly contrast ratio
$$ doesnt seem to be much of an issue, but wont go for sony tvs

Any ideas? Ive already checked Newegg, but he complained bout the feedback or something (its always hard to understand him). Also it wont be on any table, itll just be on the floor, so no need for stuff like that (unless i can convince him to get a wallmount).
 
Well if we can find Sony for a good, reasonable price, then I will suggest it for him. However, my dad really hasnt thought that highly of himself (reason why hes going for RCA). He just really wants a tv to watch shows on simply. Hes gonna get DVR for my sis, so she can record her shows (my dad & my sis love to watch tv). I will only use DVR for Mythbusters & Dirty Jobs.

Also 1 other thing, will my dad really notice the difference between 720 & 1080p??

Yes i think so, But i'm pretty sure you'll need a HDMI Cable for that, Someone correct me if i'm wrong. Just make sure your cable/Satellite box supports HDMI.

I think that's all.
 
Ok, so complete change of plans. Here is the only requirement of what my dad is looking for:

Has to be less than $600.

Size doesnt matter, but has to be at least 32".
He does want brightness, so contrast ratio cant be really high up there (just saw a Sanyo tv from Walmart w/ 2 mil contrast ratio, but not very bright).

To confirm your statement Angeal, dont worry bout the HDMI cable. I already know bout that. Thats the least of our worries.
 
Anything below 40" your gonna want LCD and 720p. I would suggest looking at store brands for cheaper ones, and they are just as good as the name brand. I have a 32" Insignia (Best Buy brand) and it is great, no complaints.

Just so you all know, my dad doesnt wanna have to wait on the shipping. Hes bout to move into his apt on monday & is having time warner come in & install the cable & dvr & stuff. So ya, he wont mind spendin some $$ on the tax around here.
 
The last one is a good deal, $500 for 42" 1080p is very cheap. I def would not go with the Bravia or second Samsung, at 32" you're not gonna benefit from the 1080p, which is what is also making it more expensive. Vizio is a good brand, my dad has a couple of them. It's also 2" bigger and $50 less than the 40" Samsung and Toshiba. As I've said, good deal.

Sony screens are made by Samsung anyway (Samsung, LG, and Toshiba make alot of different HDTV screens for different brands) and if you are looking at a screen size of 32" I do not think you will notice a difference between 720p and 1080p, larger than 32" you will start to notice a difference. And if your just watching HD channels on cable /Sat or fiber optic right now that is only broadcast at 1080i. Honestly is your looking at a screen size of 32" for casual TV watching I would go to the store where they are all set up playing and select what gives you the best picture in your opinion, if I had to lean towards a brand name I always liked 1 :thumbup:Samsung and 2:thumbup1: Toshiba.
 
my mom recently bought a bunch of furniture from a friend for 1000 bucks.

included in this bundle is a 54" or 57" tv, cant remember which.

no idea what brand i havent even seen it and cant use it til we get our new house
