Hello, Troops
I like to share something I wrote with you guys and gals a short true story.
The Power of Prayer
Something happened in my life, which brought me closer to the Lord. I took a trip, about 8yrs ago, with my church to Florida. Something happened on this trip that really changed my whole life.
First I?d like to say, back when I was 19, I joined the military. I served 22 years of my life in the military. I fought in two wars, one in a country they called Afghanistan, and the other in a country they called Iraq. During both of these wars I have witnessed a lots of death and destructions that I will always remember. Both of those wars are over for me now, but there was still one war I was still fighting inside myself, and that was my belief in the Lord.
I never have felt the strength of the lord close to me. I was Baptist when I was young and my family made me attend church everyday. I never really got close with the Lord. Once I joined the military I never returned to church again. I had a very deep cold heart from everything I have witnessed and had to do in combat as a soldier. During my tour in Iraq my belief was that if it was my time to go, there was nothing I could do to stop it. I was never really close with the Lord during these times.
When I met my wife, she changed my whole life forever. One day she asked me to come to church with her. For the first time, since I was young I returned to church once again. Then without warning, I shipped out to Afghanistan into another war. But this time was different. I traveled through the valley of death wearing around my neck a cross, and my family pictures. I always kept my family close to my heart during my jumps into combat. After my return from my combat tours the Lord and I were still not close. The injuries I received during war were physically healed, but physiologically not forgotten. I could never really explain everything I have witnessed and done during the war to anyone, not even to my family. But there was one war still going on inside me, my belief in the Lord.
On the trip to Florida a young church member had an accident. That accident and what took place afterwards, gave me a wake-up call. A young church member about 13 years old had an accident while swimming in a pool. I assisted in the rescue of this young man and gave him CPR until paramedics took him to the hospital. I witnessed all the church members going into the dinning room and praying for hours. With all the deaths I had witnessed, and all the friends I have lost in combat, I knew this young man would be okay.
When the young man returned and was okay. I thought this is for real. I truly believe it was the power of prayer that helped the young man. I also felt that all the weight that I have been caring inside for so many years had been lifted off of me and I finally felt peace.
When I returned to work the following Tuesday my fellow officers asked me? How was the trip?? I told them about what happened and I said, ?I guess it was luck that I was there? but I also told them ?The Power of Prayer really works and the Lord really listens?. Ever since that day the Lord and I are together. He brings me happiness inside myself and he understands the all the killing and the lives I had to take for my country, freedom, and peace. I can now enjoy happiness with my family and peace inside always. I feel very happy inside and I just have to let everyone know that the Lord touches everyone in many different ways even a soldier. I was lost, but the Lord never forgot about me. The Lord gave me a wake-up call and now he brought us together on the same path with The Power of Prayer.
