Looking for anyone who knows about Bows

Longbows for example can fire harder but is also less portable, short bows are weeker but much more portable. crossbows is allways the same strength in a shot and if you are more expirienced with atcual guns use a crossbow
the length of the recurve bow should be based on your draw length. Your draw length is the length of your arm span divided by 2.5 ( that is the length from tip of middle finger to tip of middle finger) if your arm span is 66 inches then your draw lenght is 26.4. Go to a good hunting store and they can help you pick the right bow with your draw length.
As for weight, it's obviously something you need to try out, but most people seem to be able to handle 30-35 (but lighter can be nice; I got my recurve abut five years ago so it's only 25 pounds, and now I can keep it drawn all day. Great help in longer competitions.)
On the other hand, my Dad has a 57 pound recurve which he handles just fine, so it's definitely up to the person.
And at least here in MN, I think the minimum for hunting is 35 or 40 pounds, so whether you plan to hunt or just target shoot might make a big difference (if you're out of shape and plan to hunt, you might even need to beef up a little, or at least get good enough that you only need to draw it back for one shot
)

i hunt, and my 2 cents on a crossbow, is for people who is handicap and cant pull back a compound bow. But on the compound note; i like the hoyts my self, recurve is a good bow aswell.. get your weight and your draw length to where your comfortable if your gonna hunt with it. That is key to make a good clean shot on the animal your hunting.
