O.K. I need more expert advice again.

Scenario #1)

When I install a program and after the install, the program asks me if I want to reboot my system. So I choose "Yes" and my system goes into a reboot mode, blanks out my monitor and just hangs there. The computer is still running, I see no harddrive activity and my monitor displays a message "No Signal". I then have to manually hit the reset button on my computer to reboot my system.

Scenario #2)

After I'm done with my computer and I call it the night, I go to my start menu, hit the shutdown button and again my computer displays a message saying, system shutting down and then the screen goes blank again, displays the "No Signal" again, but my computer doesn't turn off. I see no harddrive activity and my computer is still running. I then have to hold my power button for 4 seconds or so to force my computer to turn off.

I have no problems turning on my system. Everything boots up just fine.


I am running Windows XP Pro 32 bit. I've wiped my harddrive and reinstalled my XP three times and it still won't restart or shutdown through the software. I have to do it manually. Especially when I reinstalled Windows. It would ask me to reset my system and when I agree, it won't reset and I have to hit the restart button on my computer then the windows software continues to install.

I even reset my bios and reconfigured it and its still doing the same thing.

A few weeks ago, everything was fine. Now this started. I'm annoyed.


Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.

CMOS battery on the motherboard might be the problem or even the power supply might be becoming faulty, since you tried a lot of other solutions.

You can slap your XP CD in there and check for RAM errors, and hard drive errors as well.

I imagine all of your drivers are installed correctly too?

I've checked the cmos battery and its still real strong. I didn't know that if I put in my XP CD in, that it will check for ram and drive errors. I thought if I just put it in there, it will ask me to reinstall windows. But it can't hurt to try it out.
 
sounds like a motherboard problem.

I really cannot think of anything else to help you other than that.

The hard drive checking is in Windows.

Just go the My Computer, right click your C drive and go to properties. It should be under the Tools tab. I'm running Windows 7, so I'm trying to remember if it's in the same spot as XP.
