Nintendo 3DS hits 3-27 for $250 - Who's In?

I've been rocking a Nintendo Fatty for a while now; I skipped the 'lite', the crazy colors, and the camera iterations. Now that the newest 3d version is here, I'll probably give it a go.

$250 seems...a little steep at first, but thinking about it, I guess it seems not too bad, considering what you're getting and comparing it to the last DS systems.

Kinda worried about that battery life though; I mean, 4-5 hours? srsly? In a car, you can just keep a car-charger handy. It just feels like, WOW, you'll be tied to chargers wherever you go. The long battery life has kinda been a Nintendo handheld strongpoint, makes me sad to see such poor battery performance :(

As for games, Zelda Ocerina of Time, Pilotwings and Star Fox top my to-get list.
After that...not sure.
 
I was so excited when they first announced this. And then they put the price tag on, and I cried. A 16 year old with no job, and a lower-middle class family won't be able to afford this :(
 
Yeah, I was all like "Alright, I think I'll finally have a chance to buy a console at launch!" and then they made it cost as much as a Wii was at launch. They should have aimed for $200.

Also, lol @ all the Europeans complaining about the lack of MSRP over there. Apparently they've never heard of competitive prices.
 
I have flash cards for my DS and well 3DS games would be the only new thing for me. If I switched to 3DS right away I would lose my home-brew apps and games (most notable a portal ds 2D platformer). So no, $250 isnt worth a new handheld that is basically another DS, to me any way. I have My emus for N64 on my laptop so if I wanna play portable 64 games with limited battery life, might as well go 1440x900 res.

Plus I basically only use my DS for some Tetris DS recently
 
Yeah. Even If I said I won't I'll probably end up getting one from hype..

Plus the launch titles are sick, and I always end up playing the new pokemon games, bought a DS just for diamond+soul silver, and seeing it in 3d will be sweet.

The amount of power required to run a 3D system let alone a handheld one is quite high soo I'm not too shocked about the time that it lasts but I'm slightly shocked because its so long...all things considered its gonna be awesome, I'm totally getting one as I am a long time nintendo fan...(lets hope this redeems the Wii in the eyes of more core gamers)
 
I'll grab it in a couple of years when it hits a good sale. Only reason I really want it is for new Professor Layton games ^^. Also for the battery life, I can not really think of a time when I played the DS over 4 hours during travel. When I get home I always leave it charging when I'm playing.
 
250 dollors is way to much for it in my mind, When the fatty DS was release.

I remember spending 150 on the blue mario kart version of the DS and that was a fair decent price for it.

Now, 250 dollors i'd rather spend that upgrading the computer or buying a PS3 or even a xbox at that price.
 
I lost respect for Nitendo a while ago. They made a new gameboy every year since the gameboy color, has anyone played that? If you showed that to someone who is a hardcore gamer they would probably say that it the lamest thing I have ever seen. Anyway back on to the point. The years went by and we had the advance, the sp (still got it and play it), and finally the ds. the ds was great! It was new exciting. And guess what the next one was? A slightly better ds! and the next one? an even better ds!
Now where does this get us? If you compare the newer ones to the first ds is it really that different? Different enough that you would want to buy a new one? No, it's not worth it. They need to make something new instead of just upgrading their current gameboy and putting a higher price tag on it.

^this. i still use my fatty DS (& i even got it used). i only have 1 ds game on it (planet puzzle league, which i mostly use if i cant seem to fall asleep immediately) & 1 gba game (super mario 1 & 2). thats all i need, so really no need to spend $250 on a newer version that doesnt have much new stuff besides 3d. i believe that 3d is just another fade (like it was back in the 60's), even tho theres better technology for it now. also id rather spend the $250 on an upgrade for my computer. i done spent over $250 on my ps3.

MM. it's much more than just adding 3d. They re-did the entire hardware of it, graphics/performance are wayyy better. Basically a whole new handheld in a DS shell. Going to be closer to a wii than a ds.

Oh yeah. I mean, the 3DS is having games that are actually improvements over PS2 and Xbox games (Splinter Cell Chaos Theory and MGS3 remakes)

I want a 3DS, going to have to get some money...but I'm not falling for the newer versions trick again, just buying this one and staying with it. Going to love MGS3D, Splinter Cell 3D, the Resident Evils...
And it kinda looks like developers are going to have to drop the touch screen gimmick, as they won't be able to show off their 3d skills with a totally touch-focused game. And 3d can't really be used as a game mechanic, so maybe we'll see more good games for the 3DS?

To unnecessarily go on about MGS3D:
This is going to be awesome. I never got Subsistance, only Snake Eater, so the gameplay is going to be a lot better. The only thing that made MGS3 worse than PW and 4 was the gameplay, and how it was more top-down and therefore hard to see everything, so this one will probably be one of the best Metal Gears.

Lots of very valid viewpoints here - guess Nintendo can have polarizing effects on people.

If I had succumbed to temptation and purchased any of the subsequent DS systems, I probably wouldn't be so glib about plunking down 2 and a half C notes for this one; as it is, I almost feel like (lol), 'hey, I passed on all the others, this looks like the one for me.'

Besides the 3D (to be honest, that part feels like it could turn out to be completely gimmicky in the long run) I like the power of the system, and am completely enthralled by the idea of getting a lot of the Nintendo 1st party games. You gotta know in your heart that a new Mario is in the pipes (pun intended) and Metroid can't be too far behind. And gotta luv them Nintendogs and cats (please please please let them age in this one! after a while, the same aged puppy starts to feel...sad).

Too bad there's no chance of Nintendo doing something freaky, like sneaking in a small mobile OS on there and supporting web-browsing, apps, VOD, email...meh, who am I kidding? they can't even get it going on the Wii...
 
i'll probably wait a year or two since Nintendo likes to basically re release better versions of there own handhelds...i figured right now there just showing off the next will probably be be a slightly more ergonomic version with a higher battery life

They probably have the next one made :/. They just make so much money off releasing iterations of the same thing, which people drop their old one and go buy.
