So, looking at recent trends in the video industry have shown a gradual change from just pure Fps, to a hybrid of RPG and FPS, creating RPS (role playing shooter)

If you have no idea what I'm talking about here are some of the examples, Activision's trump card/ace in the hole and nearly milked out, burnt out piece of junk Call of Duty! If I remember correctly it started out with COD 2 with the class system then it evolved to MW 1 stage and EA's ace (I guess) Battlefield series. Oh and not to mention.... Team Fortress 2! (now it's more of Team Hatress 2.... anyone have fedora? I'll trade xD)

Just look at the changes or remember them:
COD 2 and BF 1942: They had class yes, but it wasn't really to that RPS stage yet.

Then Years later: The dawn of Next Gen comes: Ever since then you get your RPS
You get experience points, you level up, then you get to unlock your own equipment, perks or specialization (BF BC 2) etc etc. And TF 2 was RPS to start out with.

So what happened? why the changes? what happened to the good ol' days of.. Quake Arena, Unreal? Doom? or Unreal Tournament?
The only pure FPS I can hope for is Duke Nukem Forever (May 5th I think.. THIS YEAR! hopefully.. it looks like Gearbox delays their games more than Valve..)

Well the simple fact of the matter is that RPS's have a giant end goal with bunch of smaller goals in between. This makes them for fun as your achieving smaller goals and unlocking certain things that you've earned. While in FPS's it can get tedious and boring.

Just my opinion your welcome to have your own ^^

Borderlands is great; I'm looking forward to Duke Nukem Forever (which is being made by Gearbox, the same maker of Borderlands!), and CoD2 is a horrible example of a good RPS/FPS. Those of us that played CoD waited for CoD:MW or played the custom servers, like FK Mod for CoD1.
