EdgeGamers Organization Newsletter
January 2011 Edition

As the doldrums of the holidays are wearing off we are presenting to you yet another edition of the EdgeGamers Organization Newsletter. As always all of our divisions have been much busier than they realized. Much has happened, and there are many things to report. But first, we would like to congratulate everyone who received the Christmas gift of a promotion. Make us proud and show your eGO spirit! It is time to ramp back up to our usual level of activity with the many things that we offer in our community. So hop into a server, peruse the forums, and join us for some slightly rowdy fun in Ventrilo. No matter your rank, may you be a freshly minted =(e)= or a seasoned founder, or affiliation, we always enjoy talking to all who come into Ventrilo for some company!

Council

Many members of Council are in need of professional help. We are losing our jobs, spouses and weight. Why? Because we're calling in sick, ignoring our home lives and forgetting to eat. What is this disease that has consumed us? It goes by the epitaph "Minecraft".

Personal Service Center

The month of January in the Personal Service Center has been an exciting one. We would like to congratulate Cullmann and IceStyles on their Division Leader Promotions and would like to give a big hand to Shadow5631 for his recent promotion to Advisor. As a whole, the PSC would like to thank Razor1 and CrazyWolf for their time and service and hope they have good luck with their new Team Fortress 2 DL Titles.

Bad Company 2

The release of the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam expansion has brought a great deal of activity to our Bad Company 2 (BC2) division. The most prominent effects have been an outstanding spike in server rankings and a strong, steady increase in our recruiting numbers.

Call of Duty

The Call of Duty (COD) Division would like to tell you that the nice folks over at Treyarch have released server patches over the last few months which have helped improve the all-around game play as well as performance for COD: Black Ops. If you happen to own Call Of Duty: Black Ops Multiplayer in Steam, you can find this information if you click on your Library and select the game. Otherwise, you can find out about the improvements by

Counter Strike: Source

2011 is starting off with a bang. The CS:S Event Coordinators have heard your requests for more action and more unique game play. You asked and we delivered by completely revamping the event schedule. While some events will seem familiar, all new events like Hide & Seek, Gun Game Night, Climb Night and Soccer Night are bursting onto the scene.

Day of Defeat: Source

A new Day of Defeat: Source (DoD:S) Member of the Year for 2010 has been crowned - Stormy! His excellent work with the Realism event and campaigns has made it the most popular long-running event we host, and has certainly helped spark interest in our division once again.

Mod

January is looking to be the start of a very exciting year for the MOD Division. We still have our indomitable Insurgency servers running strong, 3rd, 6th, 11th, and 84th in the rankings. Of coarse, we continue to support Insurgency with events and boot camp.

Strategy

Strategy has had an amazing month! We have seen events come and go, people doing some amazing things and a ton of awards going out, but the biggest news of this month is yet to come so lets get down to business.

Lo and behold, feast your eyes on this edition of ye olde TF2 newsletter. We bring feasts to your hats, weapons and hats with our best tales yet. This low-graphic, buggy, beta game bites you hard my friends. Not everyone in Council has succumbed, but we know they will soon join us, as you the reader of this message will. You cannot hide. You cannot outrun it. But when you finally do buckle under, there is a prescription. Take the following, all day, everyday: mine.edgegamers.org

The number of recruits for the year 2010 is superb, with a total of two hundred and seventy-four (274!) new members. We can not wait to see what we can achieve in 2011. Starting in December the number of recruits steadily increased. A large number of recruits, twenty nine, were brought in within the last two weeks of December and in the first week of January a strong push brought in seventeen more. If the numbers stay constant (or even better, rise!), we could have over eight hundred new members by the end of 2011!

With the release of Vietnam and the huge Steam sale, our server rankings have made a historic jump. For instance, the two Vietnam servers jumped from having an overall ranking between 1000 and 2000 all the way up to the top 500 for Bad Company 2! With the servers running so well in terms of ranking, there are no plans to change them in the near future.

The possibility of hosting events is being mulled over by Leadership, thanks primarily to a recent petition in the forums for the return of events. Our primary focus is on recruiting and server ranking, so there is some hesitation about restarting events, since this would require locking up a server for an hour. But please do not fret over this news, as there is still the world-renowned Squad Rush Tournament to enjoy in the meantime. The next tournament will be announced as soon as Leadership gets a chance to catch their breath after the recent holidays, and it may or may not be hosted on Vietnam servers. Keep an eye on the forums and the front page for an announcement.

The servers are running smoothly and the final tweaks are currently being made to them. We are doing this to get the best playing experience for everyone possible and make their time on them as enjoyable as we can.

Current Server List:

173.199.103.54

173.199.102.55

173.199.103.107

173.199.105.54

We are happy to say that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is still doing very well, and our support for it in light of Black Ops' release has been unflinching.

Our Event Coordinating team is currently hosting a number of events for both Black Ops and COD4 that we continually announce here: http://tinyurl.com/4axm4wo. There are a few things that you might want to keep your eyes peeled for in the near future: We are planning on giving out some awards soon, and are also considering a PSC-sponsored tournament. If you have any ideas for event suggestions, please feel free to send a short, (or long!) message to one of our two Event Advisors, Stick or FrikFry.

Monday's will still feature our most popular event - Jail Night. That night you'll see the return of classic maps like Spyder and Fail Jail to the rotation along with all of the new maps that you love. Wednesday's have been completely changed and now feature Gun Game Night and Hide & Seek Night every other week! We've also added a new event focused solely on your favorite Death Run Maps. Look for it every other Thursday. Friday's might become your favorite day of all. With events like Extreme Climb Night, Dog Tag Scrims and Soccer Night you might not be able to leave the event server for hours.

So jump on over to the calendar and check our what is in store this month!

Day of Defeat: Source

A new Day of Defeat: Source (DoD:S) Member of the Year for 2010 has been crowned - Stormy! His excellent work with the Realism event and campaigns has made it the most popular long-running event we host, and has certainly helped spark interest in our division once again.

The DoD:S division would also like to congratulate our longtime Division Leader (DL), Angreifen, for being named a Leadership Member of the Year for 2010. Angreifen has played a huge "behind-the-scenes" role in making eGO what it is today, and the success of this division is in no small part due to his efforts over the years. Thank you for all you have done for us, and we're all looking forward to a great future!

From the mess hall bulletin board: Congratulations to all of the Christmas promotees! Please be sure to sign up for admin training classes when they are offered, and we look forward to playing more with everyone! Similarly, please welcome Krazy1 to the Admin Training staff; he has done a great job teaching so far, and please feel free to contact either him or any other DoD:S Admin Trainer when needed. (As a reminder, admin training is for eGs and above. Visit the Admin School section of the forums to learn more.) If you can, please also join us in Ventrilo; it helps everyone to meet each other and have a great time gaming together!

From the front lines: Realism events will continue through this month, and Campaign #4 is tentatively scheduled to begin on the first weekend in February - mark your calendars! The weekly battles (including fistfights, pistol-only duels, a crazy night where anything can happen, and a never-ending battle in a cold, snowy town some hold dear in their hearts) will also continue, and be on the lookout for a new Anzio event within the next month or so.

From the officers' Intelligence room: Two words were mentioned late one night, with a warning of "keep this secret, we're deploying soon." But I overheard them, so I'm going to pass it on to everyone else so you can be prepared too: ROYAL RUMBLE. With a fortified roster including AAA-caliber soldiers like Ronpaul, Blue Stealth, and Spray, the Leadership team will certainly be one to reckon with. Bring your best weapons and be ready for the fight when it arrives soon!

From the practice range: The eGO Competitive Team is currently in the top half of the DCL standings, and their season will conclude by early February. Best of luck to everyone out there fighting under the eGO banner!

We hope that everyone had a great holiday season, and we look forward to gaming with you again soon!

In addition, we have opened up a server for Red Orchestra: Darkest Hour in preparation for a Red Orchestra 2 server in the near future.
Look for a Crisis 2 server in March. As you can see, there will be quite a bit going on with the MOD Division in 2011.

Strategy

Strategy has had an amazing month! We have seen events come and go, people doing some amazing things and a ton of awards going out, but the biggest news of this month is yet to come so lets get down to business.

We here at Strat would like to issue huge congratulations to Sigsauer as our Member of the Year! We hope he will keep up the good work and keep helping out.

The Strategy Division is proud to announce the addition of its newest server, which just so happens to be for the game Minecraft. After all the noise EdgeGamers has been making about this game, we sat down in leadership to decide what was going to happen. It was a stalemate for a while until Council started playing. Once a few members got in, more and more kept coming. We had no choice but to open a server that still may not be big enough to fit all the supporters. Join us on our 60 slot eGO server at mine.edgegamers.org; we look forward to playing with you.

League of Legends is happy to announce a new Champion has been released. Caitlyn is her name; bringing justice to the west is her game. The Sheriff of Piltover has thrown her hat into the ring as the newest Champion to grace the battlefield of LoL and we look forward to seeing what players can do. As always, we would like to remind you that ARAM (All Random All Middle) is still happening every Wednesday at 6 PST. New events are around the corner, we hope to see you there.

Starcraft 2 and Runescape are also going through some event revisions lately, so keep your eyes peeled for something new and exciting (maybe a tournament with amazing prizes?). Remember that out Runescape and SC2 chat channels are “egoclan”. Hop in game guys, it gets you noticed!

With that, we would like to thank everyone for all the work that has been put in thus far to the Strategy Division, and we look forward to seeing where the winds will take us.

Team Fortress 2

Lo and behold, feast your eyes on this edition of ye olde TF2 newsletter. We bring feasts to your hats, weapons and hats with our best tales yet. Our masses of engineers have toiled over these words, bringing you tales of doom, fate… and hats. Now, put your hands in the air, lean back, and get ready for a crit-rocket jump of a ride!

We’ve put our strength and hats into the our new Competitive Training Event, so now YOU can know what it’s like to be in a real competitive match and know how to take victory. Designed for people new to competitive play, these events will test your very soul itself as you battle under tournament conditions. Show your mettle in these events and be ready for real competitive matches.

On top of all that, we’re giving you another great surprise. Sharpen your axe blades, for our Dog Tag Scrims have finally started up again and are going strong. But that’s not all, for BOTH the TF2 March Madness Basketball Tournament AND the TF2 Summer League Season 3 have been announced. No further information has been released yet, but pay attention to the forums and keep an eye out for the latest news.

Recruitment:
Ah, you have done well, members of TF2; we salute your glory multiple times over. For last month was our best month for recruiting in over a YEAR! This wasn’t a one-time thing either, for this month is looking to be another one of our best months in the making. Want a reward for recruiting? Get 60 recruits in one month and IceGladiator will buy you any game of your choice; it’s still open! Remember, recruiting will get you noticed and is hugely appreciated by Leadership.

Miscellaneous/General
Mark my words; you’re going to love this. The new TF2 Scavenger Hunts are continuing. You can win awesome items just for being a part of the eGO community. All you have to do is get in Ventrilo, recruit and play on the PL server or in events to get points. The top three point collectors will get prizes. We adding more prizes as we speak.

The Admin Roundtables are resuming, and will be held every two weeks, so make sure you’re there to discuss your thoughts and concerns with leadership. Be there or be square… whatever that means.

We’d also like to thank the MOD division for the huge amount of help they have given this division in recent times. Now that they have left, we have received two new Division Leaders (DLs), CrazyWolf and Razor1 from the PSC. Feel free to welcome (spam) them now that they have joined this division. With Leadership like this, we will be led to glory!

Heavy Obesity Problem
Unfortunately, the Heavy has contracted an obesity problem. Research is being done to see if it can be cured but for now his condition is stable. A radical new hat-treatment is being proposed to help the poor man lose weight. We’ll keep you in the know.
