Hello everyone. My current specs are:

Intel Pentium Dual Core E6500
Intel DG35EC Mobo
2GB DDR2 800Mhz RAM
XFX Radeon 5770
Ultra 750W PSU
250GB IDE HDD (I have a 500GB SATA HDD that I got recently, currently not hooked up)

I am looking for a not too expensive upgrade from what I currently have. How badly is my card bottlenecked by my CPU, and any suggestions to upgrade? I am leaning towards the AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE accompanied by this motherboard.

I am hoping to reuse my Radeon 5770, PSU, HDD and RAM (also adding 2GB more, since DDR3 is kind of expensive).

EDIT: I just noticed I misspelled a word in my thread title >_<)

Well I think your right in assuming you need more RAM and processor. I'd get intel but thats just me.

Hi Kunai,

I think your best bet is to go DDR 3. The motherboard you suggested only has 2 memory slots, so unless your 2GB is just one stick, you'd have to buy 2 more. DDR 3 is actually cheaper than DDR 2 now. 4GB (2 x 2GB) is $42 for DDR3 and $54 for DDR2. This is US Dollars. Since you'll have to upgrade your motherboard anyway, now would be a good time to make the jump to DDR3.

Other than that, you should be good to go. If you want to go the Intel route, a Dual Core i3 will set you back $119 whereas a quad-core i7 will be $199. The motherboard I have at work with a Core i3 is a Gigabyte GA-H55-S2V. I built 2 of them for about $350 a piece (new hard drive, CD drive, etc) and had our company Windows XP CD.

I'd also recommend Windows 7 64-bit as everything is going that route. An OEM copy of Home is $99. All these prices are from US Newegg.

I hope this helps.

MEMORY
I would say upgrade to DDR3 ram. If you buy another 2 gigs of ram for DDR2 you are looking at around 30 dollars and i searched that for lowest price on newegg. or you could buy 4 gigs of DDR3 for 40 dollars http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231253. i would definitely upgrade to DDR3.
MOBO
I always buy gigabyte MOBO just because i have had waaaay better luck with their Customer Service over Asus and other brands. but

there is a decent Gigabyte but it's more expensive than the one you had picked out.

Everythign else is fine. I use an AMD 965 black and i love it. I have OC'd on air to 4ghz. they are very nice CPU's. Intel are very nice cpus but they already run higher so if you are on a budget then i would say get an AMD.

Alright, with the suggestions included in this thread (I found slightly a slightly better GIGABYTE mobo and G.SKILL RAMS)

AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE

G.SKILL Ripjaw 4GB DDR3
GIGABYTE GA-MA785GM-US2H

Grand total is $333.93. Not bad. :D Thanks guys.

Before you pull the trigger on it, that motherboard only does DDR2.

Here are a couple I found with DDR3:
