What's Day of defeat?

So mabye its just me but lets face it Day of Defeat isnt any COD;Its clearly not as popular and we have WAY less montage videos lol . It may just be me but how many of your freinds/peers (depending on if you go to school) Acutually play DOD:s? How many Play any of sources games (Counter strike,
TF2 ect...) ? To me the number is sadly none Now either im hanging out with the wrong people lol :biggrin: or I think DOD:s could use some advertising! This thread is mainly for this reason (s).
1. How can we "advertise" DOD:s OR How can we as a community help other poeple notice DOD:s?
2. Will this help Ego as a community (More people playing *more people on servers...*

The reason DoD:s isn't as big as say CoD1 was, is because it's past it's peak and without good updating valve is slowly depriving it of the necessary attention needed.

At least 3 of my RL friends play DoD:S (just as many as blackops, etc)

Heh I'm not going to comment on my RL friends opinions of our CSS division...

You need to bill it as a half-life 2 mod. and make sure they understand it has nothing to do with CS:S

Most people stick to the newer CoD series, which suck IMO You run around and your enemies are coming from everywhere, there is no recoil and all you do is aim down a sight and spray.

In the end, it's because people can't stand being killed and having a .1 K ratio.

I think i understand what youre saying. DoD is a dying game to some (most) but i play it because its a classic and in my opinion you dont need super-fancy graphics and ACOGs on every gun to have a solid game with dynamic gameplay. But the main reason i still play DoD is because of the community you can only find in eGO (this is where you all start sobbing uncontrollably).

I agree with Stormy. I am in the Army, and God knows Soldiers love their CoD. I tried playing CoD and suck at it, because it is just craziness. Most of them also play on XBox, and can't play using a keyboard and mouse or don't wan to try with a PC controller.

Day of Defeat is an older game, Call of Duty has serious advertising via TV. My two real life friends who are in eGO are both part of the CS:S group, one never plays his computer (He is an Xbox CoD player) and the other dabbles with other games, then comes to play Realism with us.

I didnt even KNOW about Day of Defeat UNTIL I joined eGO in the CS:S division.

People who play CoD are noobs. I got bored with MW2 as soon as I got 50-10 K in multiplayer it is just so easy. It took about 3 months using the M-4 with only heartbeat sensor and Desert Eagle.

yea most people play the Failbox 180 which sucks a lot. I think once windows live had Pc vs Xbox and Pc wiped the floor with them. I think they no longer have that now.

i have gotten 3 of my friends into dod:s one who plays with me regularly (who feels they don't have time to commit to a clan). while i feel dod:s is on the way down we've got a core of people who simply like it better than most other shooters out there. I don't know if that core is in too much danger as there already are fancier games out there that they could be playing...

Well and the other thing is that it seems like DoD players are just plain good. People from other divisions try to jump over...and they get destroyed. My friends give they game a shot...and they get destroyed. It frustrates them--and they've told me this. Here is an example:

Then think: "I am going to go on top of that tower and snipe people all day long."
Other game: They go do it.
DoD: They get killed half a dozen times just trying to get to it. Then when they finally do get up there, they get to take two shots before some goof with a shovel kills them.

OR

They think: "Hey I am gonna go get that flag."
Other game: They go and do it, perhaps dispatching minimal resistance.
DoD: They come around the corner and get headshot from who-knows-where. Next time they get halfway there and suddenly they're killed by an enemy with a BAR that their brain didn't even register was there until too late. Start calling "HAX!"

Telling anyone IRL that a not so well known FPS on the PC is better than cod is a task within itself.. a near impossible one at that.


Any people around here, especially the dudes I'm friends with are all into CoD or other typical games only. I tell them about the greatness of PC GAMING but nahhh they will never bother trying.

Now honestly, they call THAT realistic? If they join any branch of the army they're going to be upset once they get a couple kills and there's still no UAV to point out the bad guys. I find DoD:S is probably one of the most challenging FPS games out there. With the recoil, no auto-aim, etc. it makes the game a lot more skill-testing. People are getting lazy, and now they expect video games to basically play video games for them. Come on people, lets get with the program.

Its just out of many peoples league, They simply dont see why i cant use a thermal on this weapon and why my knife doesnt shot out the end. (lol ballistic knife reference.)

Yeah I think Skipper summed it all up. It just goes along with what the video game community has been complaining about for the past number of years. Games are no longer played for the challenge but for the gratification.

People don't want to struggle and earn anything. They want to put a bit of time in and therefore have lots of kool toys thrown at them.

This falls in line with what the MMO communities have been complaining about WoW for years now.

Modern games = Push button and food pellet is dispensed.
