im just curious of what u would pick of things 2 build youre comp with if u had the money

These questions are never really usefull because it always depends on how much money you have. Maybe I want as many computers as i can buy and use them to farm my applications. More money, bigger farm.

Well anyways, I was told by a reliable source that the purpose of this questions wasnt looking for type of hardware but also brand specific in order to have a debate on purchasing an exact setup.

As for myself, that requires like a few hours of my time starring at benchmarks and trying different setup configurations and i'm not going to spend that time - no offence but it's just to valuable. Traditionally, what people do is make a system ad then let everyone else bash it untill there is a consencus.

Well to get on topic, my dream computer would be able to use both ATI and nVidia graphics cards together as a hybrid form of multi-carding but it's a dream anyways hahaha

my dream comp. a gaming comp that never crashes, never needs to be restarted and is able to stay on 24/7 and was able to run tf2, css, dods all at once and while online (come on valve just let us do it)

you want to be able to run 3 applications at the same time each of which gets 100% of the input devics needed to use the other applicaitons. ... its not valve that limits that kind of thing, that would be your OS

no its the process that they use is hl2.exe, thus making source games only able to one run at a time also to go with my dream comp, itd be free :P

it doesnt matter what process they use, windows supports multiple processes running at once - its not a batch operating system and YES you can even have multiple instances of the same processes running - how many svhosts.exe do you have running at once?

once again the problem is that you cannot run processes at the same time if those processes require the entire dedication of resources. Heck technically, multi tasking is only an ilusion of having many programs get exclusive access every few miliseconds or so.

think about it logically, you press "walk forward" button and sometimes it moved you forward in one game others another, depending on which milisecond you press it. Its just not possible.

Green I think thats why this thread is about your Dream Computer not necessarily whats right, wrong or possible.

Dual quad-core Skulltrail system w/ 16mb of DDR3 1800, Two 9800GX2's SLI'd all overclocked on a phase-change cooling system. And maybe throw in a few 500GB SSD's (solid state disks) in raid 0.

Now thats a dream.

Y'know what's more of a dream... having ATI and nVidia 100% compatible with each other in the same computer at the same time

um, except that the puspose was that he wants to actually build a computer based upon this discussion.

and on a further note boo raid 0 unelss you absolutely plan to neevr do homework or put naything important on it ever ever. you decrease the likelyhood of losing everything by 2 when you use raid 0. Raid 5 ftw - kid tested, monkey approved.

Duality, 16mb ram lol i know u meant gb still 16 mb would be extreme...ly laggy. also 2 cards come on they allow up to three now in SLi, nvidia ftw!

and also id want a 2000 watt PSU, just for kicks. that is if im not paying for power :P

not sure, but nvidia says now they have triple, quad will be probably here next year or so, thats my prediction with nvidia always releasing new cards

[blockquote]um, did they do away with quad sli?[/blockquote]

The 9800's are all Quad-SLI ready, apprently. I would assume that an 880i chipset and 4 PCI-2.0 mobo, or whatever they are going to put out next for the motherboards, would cost a pretty penny though =P. The thing about the 9800's is that they have a 512bit interface (the only card on the market right now with 512 is the Radeon 3870X2. It has a 256 bit interface, but it is dual GPU, so it puts it at the 512 mark). This will make for some sick benchmarks and insane performance on games. I'm wondering what the price on these babies is going to be =). Like ATI, they will be adding GDDR4 ram to the cards. The 9800 GTX will be twice as fast as the current 8800 GTX.

multi core intel processor
10 TB Hard Drive
1 TB RAM
Video card that is so advanced its scary
Hamster wheel powered CPU to save electricity
Solar panel connected to the CPU is also acceptable
Blah
bLah
blAh
blaH

thats my dream computer :D

out of that list the two things that strike me as odd are intel and 10TB of ram..... because both are under spec.
