World Cancer Day Recognition

We would like to ask everyone to take a few moments to observe World Cancer Day today. The chances that you know someone who is suffering, or has suffered from this ailment may be higher than you imagine.

Some recent revelations among our members have given us an opportunity to reflect on the world outside of our little sphere of influence here at eGO. While we fight to keep our servers a family-friendly place for all to play and have fun, some simply cannot, because as we have said so many times, "real life ALWAYS comes before eGO." Sadly, here it really does.

It's heartbreaking to hear of friends and clan members going through events like these. It is saddening for us to hear a son inform us of his father's absence, to hear of a member leaving us for months to take care of his family, or to hear just how many members whose lives have been touched by cancer. This is something that truly affects all of us in some manner.

When this subject was first brought up in Leadership, there was unanimous agreement that it would be appropriate to do something simple like this to honor the day.

Please take a few moments to reflect on this malady and think about those affected by it. For those interested, here are a few valuable links for some further reading.

I donate for my GF's sororiety 50$ for breast cancer, every year, we need to find a cure IMO so every bit helps

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone whose families have been touched by cancer including my best friends mom and my father who has skin cancer. I hope you all do well on a rather sombering day such as this. A cure will come, stay positive that it does.

great post. my dad had cancer last year. luckily i can say he won the fight (for now. you never know if its coming back ><). my thoughts are with all the people who lost someone due to cancer.

I don't suggest that. The caduceus is a symbol earned by physicians and others in the health field and is rather meaningful. It'd be a shame to just put it on.

Understandable - I guess another symbol better representing the "ribbon" would be a good alternative?

I don't know anyone who has ever had cancer but I support this and R.I.P

My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer early last year. Thankfully a week before Christmas (a surgery and an asinine amount of doctors' and treatment visits later) she was given the good news that the cancer seems to have been completely annihilated. She's only 28 years old!

It's VERY scary.

People who you know as healthy, happy and very much alive can be taken from you in a matter of months.

Both my mother's parents succumbed to prostate and breast cancer.

My heart goes out to anyone who has had to endure the horrific and traumatic events associated with a loved/close one fighting the worst disease that we as a race have ever known.

Its scary. My nana has survived 9 confirmed cases of cancer over 30 years. She was lucky the first time, they just came out with the radiation treatment. Its really not fair, and I my condolences go to everyone in this clan and in the world who have lived with cancer or with someone that has had cancer.
