no the earlier incident over the root key in january was bout a hacker who found out how to edit the root key, but decided not to release it just yet due to some reason. it really does sound like some sony employee who was recently let go & still had access to that account, so he figured he would make them pay for this. then again, im just makin up stuff. point is itll be interesting to see what all happens now that the root key is out there.
Kevin Butler is managed by a separate PR Company, I doubt too many people at Sony have access to it.
Must have been some idiot at that PR Company who knew nothing. Granted, I thought they should have kept it up, as it's funny as hell.
That is not the root key. The root key was released by another hacker, and is still usable and floating around the internet. The guy is now in court with sony and has all his electronics related to the ps3 hacking impounded. The thing he found is not fixable. Sony would have to actually issue new hardware to everyone if they wanted to stop that.
This is just an exploit for the ps3, and I believe it's already been patched. I believe joystiq and kotaku had better articles on it.
